    Difficult Interview

    Application

The process took 5 daysinterviewed at Idearc Media (Atlanta, GA) in November 2009.

    Interview

I had a one to one interview in a hotel suite at a "interview conference" (job fair with personal interviews). They called me two days later to invite me to their office in Alpharetta for a second interview.

The second interview was with a panel of four people, who were the local sales managers plus a regional guy. They asked a lot of behavior questions, "what would you do in such a such situation". They also asked a lot of questions that had to do with being able to handle the rejection of cold calling - and I had a lot of experience with that so I felt I answered it well. But after reading others comments on this board, as well as knowing of their bankruptcy, it appears that they really, really wanted to know if I could take a tough situation.

I thought I had done well, and I have over ten years experience, but they did not extend me an offer. I speculate that they felt they couldn't put me through a churn and burn situation, that a smart experienced person just wouldn't put up with it, and that I was too experienced to be under the younger sales managers. I talked a lot about wanting to advance in the company, and I think that went against me because the sales managers maybe fear someone more experienced than them. But I could be totally wrong and they just weren't inspired by me.

They really questioned me hard, and it felt like they were really trying to put me through the paces. My friend was interviewed by them the next day and it was only the three local sales managers and not the regional guy, so I assume he was training them in interviewing techniques on the day I was there. Another thing pointing to the inexperience of the sales managers.

My suggestion is to come across like you will be a team player, do something that makes yourself appear as less significant than the sales managers there, for example, ask them a question that makes it appear you are looking up to them. I need a job so I would have taken it, but from what others have written, I'm kinda glad I didn't end up here.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 daysinterviewed at Idearc Media (San Jose, CA) in September 2009.

    Interview

Asked about previous experience via phone interview. After I passed that, had a 1:1 interview with General Manager. Spoke with her for about 20 minutes and she asked me the usual questions like "Wat were your greatest challendes", "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?", etc. She was going to have me do a role play with a colleague then decided that it would not change her mind. She offered me the position.

    Interview

Contacted and screened. Did 45 min phone interview next day. My follow-up calls and emails were ignored completely. THREE WEEKS later - I got a return call from the same recruiter/interviewer I spoke to originally asking who I was and when did we ever speak! Preposterous company!

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Idearc Media (Everett, WA) in February 2009.

    Interview

I was interviewed with 3 different floor supervisors. 3 completely different personalities. This was incouraging for me, since they did not want to a cookie cutter approach on their sales people. The interviewers was rather unpleasant but I just saw it as being as a part of the hiring process. It was not personal but it was not a fun interview by any means.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Idearc Media (Boston, MA) in May 2008.

    Interview

There was a prescreen telephone interview with HR. It was very basic. She followed up a couple of days later to schedule the in-person interview with the manager. The second interview was about a week later. It included a mock sales call that I had 15 minutes to prepare for using the information and scenario that my manager outlined for me.

    Negotiation

I couldn't negotiate anything. It was a union position.
