Loss Prevention Officer

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at J. C. Penney.

Interview Details – Called and asked to come in anytime. No initial time set. I gave a time I would be there and basically sat and talked for 45 minutes with the supervisor. I was then asked to come in for a formal interview a week later. We talked a little more about the scheduling and personal things. I was told I would hear something when their manager returned from their vacation.

Interview Question – No specific questions. It was more of a conversation between two people. One question asked was "What do you think a loss prevention officer should stand for"   View Answer

Reason for Declining – .The interviewer seemed to give the run around from the get go. Although they were VERY personable and friendly it seemed as if though they were going behind their managers back and interviewing.

Loss Prevention Investigator Interview

I applied online and the process took 6 weeks - interviewed at J. C. Penney in September 2013.

Interview Details – I submitted three applications via the JCP website for other positions but never received a response. I applied to this position via lpjobs.com and received a phone interview 3 days later with the LP Manager. I had an in-person interview with that same manager two weeks later and then a phone interview with a manager at the corporate office one week after that.

JCPenney uses the behavioral interview centering around specific situations a person has been in, what actions the person took, and the results of the actions. This takes a lot of self-awareness and I recommend conducting an interview of the many types of environments you've been in and what you did to make it better.

Interview Question – All of the questions start with "Tell me a time when..."   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at J. C. Penney in August 2013.

Interview Details – Make sure to do plenty of research on what exactly the job is and entails. They will ask you a lot of situational questions. You will need to explain the situation, what you did and the result. Dress for success! I went in a jacket and slacks. I was told they turned several away for showing up in jeans, shorts, etc. Come on! Practice, practice practice the possible questions. Be confident! Own it. Be early. Firm hand shake.

Interview Questions

  • I studied for a few days and really thought hard about any questions I could get asked. My LP manager gave me a heads up on what his boss would ask me in the next interview. He gave me the confidence to just go in there and own it and I did.   View Answers (2)
  • Describe a time you made a suggestion that would better the operations/sales and what was the result?   Answer Question

Interview Question – What would you do if...   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I did not take full advantage of the negotiation phase, not knowing exactly how to go about it but it was conducted well.

Loss Prevention Associate Interview

Loss Prevention Associate

I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at J. C. Penney in November 2010.

Interview Details – I walked towards JC Penny, as I entered; the person who was going to interview me was already waiting by the door. These people are in plain clothes in order not to be identified. I was not as nervous since this was not exactly my dream job or anything. I just thought it would be something different and interesting and wanted to learn more. It took them one day to contact me for this interview. I was taken to a back room where I was asked to sit until he came back with a sheet of paper with what I would assume were questions.

I was asked why would I want to work for JC Penny? The guy was very nice where I was comfortable with the questions. I was asked about scenario questions, like if I saw a shop lifter taking $10 merchandise would I stop him? What if he had a few friends with him, would I chase after him? I was told I had to keep in mind of the safety of the employees and myself. After about 20 minutes into the interview I was asked that JC Penny is also considering other positions that would fit me as well since I have dealt with people in the past. That if I was interested in those other positions like associates to start with. As I was told that I had a feeling he was not interested in me for the loss prevention position. Also, I have never had prior experience in this type of job, and as he explained to me more about it, I was not interested in it either. It was too confrontational for me, and I like to socialize with others and not have drama surround me. So just as we were wrapping things up after about 32 minutes, he asked “Why should I hire you over someone else?” Then we thanked each other and I left the store to look around the mall.

Loss Prevention Manager, Retail

The process took a day - interviewed at J. C. Penney in August 2010.

Interview Details – I had received a phone call from Store Manager who seemed very excited to meet and talk with me. During the interview we had spoke about previous jobs, and spoke about working at the same store 10 yrs prior. He was surprised to hear that and was very happy. The old process the Store Manager did the Hiring of LPM. The new process has to go through Regional Offices/Managers. I never heard or spoke to anyone from Region/District Offices. I was very unhappy with the process. I followed up with store Manager he had no answer for me, just said sorry, not sure what to say.

Interview Question – Why so many jobs? Just explaining each Job   View Answer
