Financial Analyst at JPMorgan Chase

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Newark, DE Oct 2010 – Reviewed Jan 3, 2013

Interview Details – Got an interview for a temporary position and was eventually hired full-time after being placed by a temporary staffing agency. The interview first began as a first round phone interview, then a face-to-face second round interview on site, followed by a third round face-to-face interview again on site. I was then called and given a start date for a week later. I was a temporary employee for 3 months before being put on a full-time salary.

Financial Control Analyst at JPMorgan Chase

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Newark, DE Nov 2012 – Reviewed Nov 21, 2012

Interview Details – There were 2 interviews one over the phone with senior HR recruiter with basic behavioral questions like why do you want this position etc. After this someone from HR contacted me saying they would like me for a face to face interview. In the face to face they asked me behavioral question and stuff from my resume. The face to face was set up were 4 different people and I spent half an hour with each individual. My advise would be be well prepared with stories relating to generic interview qs as well from stuff on your resume. Read the job description and pick up on keywords from it.

Interview Question – They were all regular generic interview questions the only this you should focus is how to relate your past experiences with the job.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I didn't try to negotiate yet

Financial Analyst at JPMorgan Chase

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Oct 2012 – Reviewed Oct 30, 2012

Interview Details – The first round interview were held at my campus recruiting center and was half behavioral/fit and half math. I come from a history background so they didn't ask anything too technical. They were really looking for the way you think and approach problems so don't worry if you don't come from a finance or business background.

The second round was at one of JPM's NY offices and consisted of two back-to-back half-hour interviews. Again, these were mostly behavioral with some math problems thrown in. In the second interview my interviewer gave me a kind of mini-case (like what you would get in a consulting interview) but it was very straightforward (you own a small coffee shop on a college campus, business is going bad: why is that and how can you fix it). They said I'd hear back from them in two weeks but I actually got an email asking to meet for a "follow up" a day later.

I think this follow up was actually a kind of secret third round, just judging by what the people I spoke with (who had been hired into this position two years before) said. I just meet three JPM employees for coffee at one of their NY offices. This "round" was entirely fit questions (Why finance? Why JP Morgan Chase?) and was really just a good chance for the candidate to build rapport with the "interviewers" and ask questions. A little nerve-racking but the people I spoke with were very nice so that helped.

Interview Question – Probably "Why finance" seeing as I am a history major, but I have genuine interest in finance so I think that showed. Don't try to fake on this one, have an honest answer or else you might as well just say "I want a nice salary."   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Basically no room for negotiation as I am coming an undergraduate entering into a program so the salary/benefits are basically set.

Financial Analyst (Contract Position) at JPMorgan Chase

No Offer – Interviewed in Dallas, TX Aug 2012 – Reviewed Aug 15, 2012

Interview Details – I was contacted by an independent recruiting firm for this position. She said that I fit the mold of the type of people that they liked to hire. She submitted my resume to them and I was accepted to the interview.

I met with a first lady who was young, but still in a fairly high level of management. She asked easy questions for about 20 minutes, then she passed me off to another lady who was possibly in a higher level of management.

The second lady clearly had not read my resume despite the fact that she couldn't do much work in the morning because their computer systems were down. She asked me a few other easy questions (some of the same ones). She looked up and down my resume and says "I don't see that you have an securities or trading experience. Correct?" Well, it was pretty obvious that I did not and although I knew the job involved securities and trades, it was an entry level position and whoever posted the job did not seem to think experience with trades was necessary. I told her that I was a quick learner. Next, she says, "We were really looking for someone with trade experience." Way to make it awkward ...

Apparently there was a disconnect between high level management and whoever was calling people in to interview who called me in the exact same day that my resume was actually submitted. Then, management didn't even bother to think of good questions to ask me which could have taken 5 - 10 minutes.

I just got a very bad vibe from this place despite the fact that they gave me the easiest interview questions ever.

Financial Analyst at JPMorgan Chase

No Offer – Interviewed in Houston, TX Oct 2009 – Reviewed Jun 16, 2011

Interview Details – JPMorgan was recruiting at my University for a commercial banking analyst position. It started off by applying through my University's system. They required a minimum GPA or 3.5 a finance degree, and they preferred extra hours of accounting, which I had. I was invited to meet with two bankers at my University. It was mostly a screening process. I was then told a couple of days later that I was invited to the final round in Houston. The interview started at 9 and lasted until 2. It was several rounds of interviews with different groups of bankers (each had a different market). There was one stress interview where I was asked this question.

First the set up: There was a man and woman interviewing me. The man was wearing a black tie.

Woman: My colleagu here is wearing a pink tie, but he swears to me that he is wearing a black tie. Would you please convince him that he is wearing a pink tie.

That was one of the oddest questions I've ever had, and I froze. It took me a while to come up with something, and it was just awkward. I think it is the main reason why I wasn't given an offer. So heads up on some weird questions. They are just looking for you to keep your cool and keep talking calmly.
