    Senior Project Manager Interview

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at KPMG US in October 2013.

    Interview Details

The initial contact was through a hiring agency. KPMG was looking for a Senior PM with in-depth knowledge of data warehouses, both from a business and a technical perspective, for a program proposed by the firm's CIO.

I interviewed with three people at their office in Montvale, NJ, each of whom would have been a peer in the organization. Each person was quite frank about the fact that the effort was in its embryonic stages and would need someone who could not only manage projects, but also run discovery sessions and do presentations to gather requirements for one or more pilot efforts.

Their feedback to the program manager must have been positive, as I was called back in to meet with him a few days later. The gist of that conversation was that he was more interested in what kind of project governance he could expect from me rather than how I could help generate interest among the partners for the endeavor.

After waiting almost two weeks, I was informed by the hiring agency that the PgM had hired someone else through a different agency.

    Interview Questions
    • There were really no difficult or unexpected questions. What WAS unexpected was the disconnect between the PgM and his reports over the requirements for the position.   Answer Question

    Senior Manager Interview

I applied through an employee referral. The process took a weekinterviewed at KPMG US in April 2009.

    Interview Details

The process included a series of group interviews with current staff (not HR folks) and if you made the cut from group to group, you were then presented with a specific "case: (as a form of behavioral interview) where a smaller group offered up a potential client situation and what you would do to serve that particular client. The final interview was with the Partner I would report to.

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ monthsinterviewed at KPMG US.

The entrance exams were very difficult but the actual interview process was relatively straight forward. The key things are to prepare extensively to pass the entrance exams while being very specific in terms of what you want to do at KPMG. Nobody in Audit wants to interview someone for an audit role who's long term plan is to be in M&A advisory.

    Interview Questions
    • Technical questions are few and far between. However, the up front investment into staff is significant so be unequivocal in the fact that you view KPMG as your long term career--any indication that you regard it as a great brand to develop yourself or act as a stepping stone will likely result in termination of the interview process. KPMG knows that it can do for you, what it wants to know is what you can do for it.   Answer Question

I applied online – interviewed at KPMG US.

Extremely slow and sloppy process. Applicants are literally treated like commodity and not human beings. The HR is not responsive to mails or phone calls. They don't even own the responsibility of hiring.
When arranging the interviews it takes months for them to arrange an interview and then another month to reply.
It appears that the hiring manager is not aware of what she/he is looking for.

The interviewer gave an impression that KPMG is not great place to work so beware.

    Very unprofessional experience overall.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeksinterviewed at KPMG US.

    Interview Details

Interview process consisted of three interviews. One initial meeting with an MD, then a phone screen by an SM and followed by an interview with a partner. All involved were very personable and professional. The HR representative responsible for executing the process and negotiating the salary was a little different and in one case blatantly dishonest. However, after several conversations and a call with the MD, everything worked out.

I was on the fence the entire time and although I really liked the people I spoke with, the dishonesty from the HR rep was a bad sign.

The process took a dayinterviewed at KPMG US in April 2012.

    Interview Details

I was refered to the KPMG partner that heads up this particular team by a friend and the KPMG partner invited me for an informal chat. We got along swimmingly and dealt with certain questions like:

Why are you thinking of changing jobs?
What do you hope to get out of working for KPMG?
Why are you interested in this particular technical area?
What people skills do you think you can bring to the team?

The partner that interviewed me was very friendly and it actually didn't feel like an interview, it was an informal chat which is leading to a second informal chat with some other partners in the group (currently being arranged).

The work culture seems to be quite long hours as the partner made an excuse for being late to a 9am meeting as he was held up in another meeting before 9am.

I applied online. The process took a dayinterviewed at KPMG US in August 2011.

    Interview Details

    1. Was hired through a placement agency after applying to an online vacancy advertised for on naukri.com
    2. The placement agency shared the c.v. which was then approved by HR in KPMG
    3. Two weeks later HR called and conducted a 20 minute phone interview covering experience and more specifically looked for information on last salary drawn
    4. Met head of practice two weeks later at the KPMG office for another 20 minute interview.
    5. HR got back through the placement agency to offer a position that was two grades lower than what was advertised for
    6. Asked for an understanding on the basis for which the grade/ position was revised
    7. Slow communication process thereafter and the placement agency mentioned their hiring could take upto 4 months

The process was long and I think a lot of that was because they had trouble getting availability for the right people they wanted in on the interview process. I guess that means everyone is busy and, depending on your perspective, that's either a good or a bad thing.
