I applied in-person. The process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at Kohl's in August 2014.

The interview process was terrible. It is in group format and they ask you customer service scenario questions. Didn't like it at all. This company needs to reconsider their interviewing format. They also expect you to work different departments as well as register. Very understaffed. Not a good experience

I applied online. The process took a day - interviewed at Kohl's in August 2014.

The manager called me and set up an appointment for me to be interviewed. I came in and had to fill out some paperwork along with another person. The manager interviewed both me and the other person which was a little unprofessional to me as well as intimidating because the other woman had more experience than me. She asked a lot of questions I wasn't expecting except for the usual, Why did you pick this position.

Interview was brief, then a walk about around the store. Two day's later, just put on a register with a book to learn from. The book was not very helpful. You just pretty much had to learn on the job.

    Senior Engineer Interview

    Application Details

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Kohl's in June 2014.

    Interview Details

I was contacted on a job site about a possible fit for a Sr. Engineer role they were looking for to work at their Milpitas location. I had limited experience in the specific skills they were looking for but since I was contacted for the position and not the other way round, I thought that there might be something that might be of interest to me. There was no pre-screening phone interview that is usually done with most of the companies. I was scheduled for a 4:00 pm interview with a couple of people.
The Recruiting Manager led me to a meeting room and my first interview started at around 4:30 pm. I was asked about my experience and the most challenging task I'd taken upon in my current company and other regular interview questions and some technical questions. After that I was asked to wait for the next interviewer and I waited for about half an hour but the other person did not turn up. In between, people are scrambling to find empty conference rooms to conduct meetings at like 5:15 pm. Most of the cubicles are still occupied. I had a feeling that they have no respect for the other person's time and effort. If you're unsure if somebody fits the bill, shouldn't a phone interview be done to make sure they might be a good fit? Why would you make somebody take half a day off from work to commute all the way and then make them wait for so long and then say the interviewer is busy in another meeting?
To top it all, I was asked by the HR who delivered the news about the manager being unavailable if I wanted to come back to talk to that person who was then busy.

    Sales Floor Associate Interview

I applied online. The process took 3 days - interviewed at Kohl's in July 2014.

    Interview Details

I applied online and they called me a day later. The interview was a group interview. There was myself and 5 other candidates. None of them were dressed in business casual like i was which was very off-putting. One man was wearing crocks with socks. If anything the other candidates were what made the interview so horrible. None of them were prepared, none dressed appropriately, none of them answered the interviewers questions very well, a lot of them would say "I agree with her" (NEVER say that, you need to make yourself seem unique even if you do agree try to put a twist on your answer). All in all, the interview was a disaster and was a terrible experience. I tried to go in with a positive attitude but really Kohl's is just lazy for not interviewing individually. I am currently working two job and was just hoping to swap one of my current ones with Kohl's. My availability was not very good and that ended up being why i didn't get the job. My advice would be to stand out the best that you can. Wear something fashion-forward, not something plain and unmemorable. Also, answer every question as honestly as possible, if you do get the job and that type of situation comes up in the interview it does not look so great for you. Plus most of the time the interviewer can tell if you are trying to make something up.Practice answering your interview questions either by yourself or have someone ask you them and try to answer them on the fly. Yesterday i got a job offer for a supervisor position with another company so i am not too upset about this interview not going well. So if you don't get the job don't be discouraged! Something will come. Good luck everyone!

    Interview Questions
    • None, all were very basic interview questions. Literally google "basic interview questions" and those are what were asked. Such as "name a difficult situation and how you dealt with it.", "name a time you got frustrated." "name a time you had a conflict at work with either a fellow employee or a customer". "what would you do if you caught a fellow employee stealing?" and so on. Very basic.   Answer Question

I applies online and spoke with a recruiter over the phone. I was invited to a 2 day event in Milwaukee a few weeks later. It included a very casual networking dinner the night before and the interviews the following morning at corporate. There were three 1:1 interviews with various managers in the buying offices and then a group interview later in the day. They also gave a tour of the corporate office.

    Beauty Adviser Associate Interview

    Application Details

I applied online - interviewed at Kohl's in July 2014.

    Interview Details

Unfortunately, I didn't have a good interview experience at the Kohl's in my area. A mix up with their online listing led to a bad experience for me and the interviewer.

I applied through Snagajob, which listed the position as "Beauty Sales Associate." In the job requirements section, it said they wanted someone with prior experience in sales, customer service, or working with the public, and a "willingness to apply cosmetics and fragrances" on customers according to state regulations. I have two years' experience as a Sales Associate and I was willing to do makeup applications, so I met the listed requirements. I thought it would be a fun job and I filled out the application.

Four days later, I got a voicemail from the HR department saying they were doing interviews the following morning at 10. Excited, I called back to let them know I'd be there.

When I arrived, the interviewer seemed surprised that I was the only applicant, since it was supposed to be a group interview. He asked for a resume, so make sure to bring one to your interview just in case. After looking it over, he asked if I had previous experience as a beautician or cosmetologist. I let him know I didn't, but I was eager to learn. Then he told me the position was for a Beauty Adviser Associate, and as soon as he said that, a red flag went up.

I thought, wait a minute, I applied for the Beauty -Sales- Associate position! Of course I'm not qualified to be an Adviser! He said prior experience in cosmetology was more or less required. This also concerned me, because I knew the Snagajob listing never mentioned beautician experience as a requirement. All it asked for was a willingness to do makeup applications. None of the application questions asked if I had that experience either.

I thought, the only thing that can explain this is I applied for the wrong position.

He told me that the best opening for me would be somewhere else in the store, but he didn't give specifics as to what department. At that point, we could both sort of tell this wasn't going anywhere.

He asked some routine interview questions and I filled out paperwork just in case they still had another opening. The interviewer got busy and let me know to hand over my papers to the HR woman. She checked over everything, and told me that was it. I didn't see the interviewer again.

When I got back home, I immediately pulled up the listing to see what was going on with this position. Had I mistakenly applied for the Beauty Adviser Associate position instead of the Beauty -Sales- Associate position? When I checked, it turns out that I had applied for the Beauty Sales Associate position like I thought. I double checked the ad to see if required beautician experience was mentioned, but it wasn't.

If I had known the position was for an Adviser instead of a Sales Associate, as the listing specifically said, I would never have applied. I felt misled. The interviewer's time and mine were wasted, and I probably came across as incompetent. I truly wish them well on finding the right applicant, since the interviewer and staff were all really nice and straightforward, but in the end I'm not happy about the mix up. I don't think I'll be applying to Kohl's again.

I applied through other source. The process took 1 week - interviewed at Kohl's in October 2011.

    Interview Details

When I was interviewed (in 2011) it was a group interview. Not sure if that's changed. Hiring process fairly easy, training is all done on the computer and then you're kinda thrown into shadowing for about 2 days. POS training is about 2 hours long. It's easy to pick up on though so don't be afraid to just jump in and ask questions!
