Deli/Bakery Clerk Interview

Deli/Bakery Clerk
Gassaway, WV

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Kroger in June 2013.

Interview Details – It was a wonderful interview; like talking among friends. The interview wasn't scary, it was one on one with an assistant manager. The interview wasn't laced with trick questions. I found that this kind of interview helped build my interviewing skills.

Interview Question – The most unexpected question: "What's your favorite color?" I loved this question, though. But I'll admit that it wasn't what I had planned for.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – There wasn't much of a negotiation phase. I waited for my drug screen to come back and then gave them my availability and started immediately.

I applied online and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Kroger.

Interview Details – the interview process was in a group setting, multiple individuals looking for positions in different departments and multiple store, using a district recruiter. the interview provided lots of company history, expansion plans, other locations, and rather general details about the in-store experience. there was very little information provided in regards to wages/hourly compensation.

Interview Question – During the process they wanted us to demonstrate how we would interact with customers by acting out daily situations with the recruiter as the customer.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – there was no negotiations. They informed us that as new hires expect to receive the least amount of hours because those with "seniority" in your department get the most hours starting with those who receive an automatic 4 hr week. Both the recruiter and the store management team skated around the Compensation questions like they didn't want to reveal that new hires start out making Minimum Wage.

I applied online and the process took 5 days - interviewed at Kroger in April 2008.

Interview Details – I applied online for a cashier position, and a few days later I received a call from the deli/bakery department manager. The interview was mainly her explaining the department and what I would be trained to do. She only asked about my school schedule and if I had a car. I signed for the background check and did a mouth swab for the drug test. Two days later she called me back and I was scheduled to start training that following Sunday.

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Kroger in February 2012.

Interview Details – I know all Kroger stores are different, but the interview was very unprofessional. The person who interviewed me seem quite awkward, and more nervous than I was. Didn't ask me any standard interview questions such as 'what could you bring to this company?' or 'why work for us?' He pretty much went over my work history and asked what I did and etc. Called up the manager for the department that I was interviewing for and had her meet me. Pretty much asked me how much I could lift, told me about the job duties, and asked me if I knew what 'sense of urgency' meant. I told her and she seemed relieved that I knew since no one else that currently works with her did. I mean, really?

After that he told me when to come in for the drug test. A week later I went in and did it and signed the stuff for my background check. Told me they'd call me once everything was done. A week later they did but I had to retake the drug test (saliva test). So retook it and he told me he'd call me in a couple days with results. Never did. I'm assuming my test came back inconclusive again (I don't do drugs, but I do have a lot issues with my mouth so idk if that could have affected the test results) or they just forgot about me so they didn't call. I didn't bother to call because after all I've heard from people that work/ed at Kroger, I don't really have a desire to work for them. They could have still at least called me and told me my results regardless. Very unprofessional place.

Interview Question – Didn't really ask any.   Answer Question

I applied through an employee referral and the process took a day - interviewed at Kroger in August 2011.

Interview Details – It was odd... Although I had other experience it was not allowed to be used because they did not want to pay for experience. Their computers were slow so I had to sit and wait for about 30 minutes.

Interview Question – What would you do if you couldn't get a customers need met   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – it is a very flexible company because of partime work only as far as time off.. but they would not allow me to include any other experience I had in order to get a better job grade because they didn't want to pay me.
