Very simple and straight forward. Nothing difficult. The interview process is very basic and not very long. They just want to know that you at least has some personality and aren't a total lunatic. I would simply suggest that you relax and be yourself without trying too hard to impress

I applied online then 2 weeks later got an interview. The interview was great nice average questions.I was hired on the stop and asked what department I wanted to work in. Then, the interview ended and they never contacted me again until I showed up and asked what was going on. The Department manager that hired forgot that she had hired me. So, I had to interview again and got hired again.

HR contacted me to set up an interview about a week after applying online. The interview was pretty straightforward. The interviewer asked questions off a list. So the questions were pretty standard stuff that you would here anywhere else. ex. Why work at macys? Strengths and weaknesses?, Describe a time where you had to use teamwork to solve a problem? ....

I interviewed online. The process took 1 week - interviewed at Macy's in August 2013.

    Interview Details

Initial basic phone interview. In person interview was a 2 person session where they asked for details about my contributions to my previous position, how I would improve my performance and what I expected in the future. No surprises. There was talk of advancement opportunities within the company. It was one of the easier job interviews. Just listen and if you have good attention to detail, try to showcase that along with any law enforcement, LP or security experience, especially when asked about your role and results in situations.

    Interview Questions
    • None. It was essentially a more in depth phone interview.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
I did not negotiate because I was leaving a very low paying position. However, I would suggest when you apply you don't lowball. Look at the average and go a $1 or $2 above.

I interviewed online. The process took a day - interviewed at Macy's in August 2014.

    Interview Details

I applied online for the administrative support team member position (Monday) and received an email the next day (Tuesday) to schedule an interview. I scheduled the interview for the following day (Wednesday). There were quite a few time slots available but I wanted to do the interview immediately. I arrived at the location and waited in an area near the back offices until someone came out to get me. I was greeted by the administrative support team supervisor who was very nice. The interview went extremely well, so well that I was offered the job on the spot. I will start once my background check clears.

    Interview Questions
    • All of the questions were pretty simple. Mainly situational and "what would you do" type of questions.   Answer Question

The hiring process for Macy's in Simpsonville, SC was pretty straight forward. I filled out the on-line application. I arrived early and the interviewer was very nice and professional. I was sadden to find out that no matter what type of experience you have or how many years you have worked in retail, they start all the new hires at the same low rate

I interviewed online. The process took 2 months - interviewed at Macy's.

    Interview Details

It took 2-3 months for them to get back to me about being hired seasonal. The interview was easy. There was a group interview of about 20-40 people. Then they called you in individually for a 1:1. At the end of the 1:1 they let you know if you where hired and asked you to go sit back in the open area. You got your paperwork and date to report to orientation.

I interviewed online. The process took 5 days - interviewed at Macy's.

    Interview Details

The time between the online application process and my in-store interview was less than one week. The person who interviewed me was incredibly friendly. She had not reviewed my application beforehand, so she asked me to tell her about myself while she flipped through it. Then, she read some interview questions pretty much verbatim from questions described on Glassdoor (i.e. study up!).
Let me say this: I had ZERO retail experience. It helped my interview that I took the time to learn what Macy's looks for in a Sales Associate (a motivated, enthusiastic team player who has proven to work well with people) and demonstrate those qualities in my answers. Maybe I'm an overachiever, but I practiced (and still do) my Macy's credit sales pitch on my boyfriend.
I was not hired on the spot, but on the same-day. By the end of that week, my paperwork and 2-day training was complete!

    Interview Questions
    • There was a question asking how I would act if someone I knew did something unethical, such as steal.   Answer Question

Macy's does not let you negotiate. You get paid based on your retail experience.
