Application Details

I applied online. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at Macy's in December 2014.

Interview Details

I applied online and after 6 days I received an email to schedule for an interview thru a link which I did, the interview date I picked was Dec 2 2014 by 12:15pm, I arrived there by 11:00am, and I walked to the office and the secretary told me to drop my name and phone number down that if the manager is free before my appointment time I will be called if not till 12:15pm, she said I should just hang around, so I decided to do some window shopping around the store, while I was walking round i saw one of their staff with a cart of items to restock and the cart was about to fall from her so I ran to help her and she tried to fix the leg of the cart that fell out, after that she thanked me and we both smiled at each other, while I was still walking I saw a customer and she said to me that I look good and I smiled and said thank you and I told her her hair looks good and we both smiled and maybe because I was wearing black on black with long boot she thought am a staff lol,she told me that she was looking for a red round neck sweater and all she could see was a v neck and I helped her to check also and we did not see so she had to pick the pink color, and I left her and told her to enjoy her shopping, when I left her i walk to another direction and i saw exactly what she was looking for and I took it to her and she was soooo happy and she thanked me and said I am her angel for that day and I smiled, when it was 12:05pm I went to the office again and the secretary told me that I should exercise patience that the manager will soon be free so I went out again. I decided to stand close to the office to wait and while I was waiting I saw the staff I helped early walked thru to the office and we smiled at each other, about 12:25pm i received a call that they are ready for the interview and I walked in and the secretary introduced me to the sale supervisor "the same person I had helped with the cart"and said she will interview me and the woman smiled at me and said " hmm we meet again" and we both smiled, she then took me to the interview room, there were chairs and tables there she then pulled out a chair and told me to seat and she sat also, she now proceeded with the questions from a book, 1, Tell me about yourself, 2, have you ever sold something to a stranger and how did it go, 3, if your team is given a task to do and everybody thinks it is done but you feel it is not done what will you do, 4, why Macy's, 5, Are you a risk taker, 6, How well can you use technology, 7, Has your integrity been tested before, have you seen coworker stealing and what did you do about it, 8, Availability, 9, what method of payment did you use at your last job. I was so bold answering the question and I even gave an example of the lady I help to get the red sweater and that made her happy as well, because I had early seen these questions on glassdoor and as I was answering I was looking into her eyes and she was writing down things, after i have answered all the questions she now told me that they pay their seasonal $8:25, and weekend is compulsory and some late night also.i was worried about the late night cos I went with bus so she said I should discuss it with my husband and call her the next day unfailingly cos other people are still coming for interview. She even said if I perform well they might even hire me for permanent, the next day I called her and told her that I am available for the job so she said the will give me a call to come for the paperwork, the pay is not too ok for me but I just needed to include Macy's in my CV and to get some experience there.

I applied online. The process took 4 daysinterviewed at Macy's in December 2014.

    Interview Details

Interview started right on time yesterday. The woman conducting the interview was very nice. She told me right away that there were no positions available at this time, but she said she would hold onto my application and call if something opened up. I was asked 4-5 questions, all of which I found on Glassdoor before going in. The actual interview only took about 5-10 minutes, but the woman was very nice and we were just talking the rest of the time.

I applied online and got an email to do an phone interview. The phone interview came a week later, it was about 15 minutes long, pretty basic. He was really nice, the questions were all fairly easy. Was offered after the interview. Being that it was a phone interview where the interview can't see you, you have to rely on your speech and tone.

The interview was simple and the person interviewing was very kind. She asked about previous jobs and why I'd had left. We made small talk and we had a few laughs. It was very forward and fast.

I applied to Macy's to be a regular part time associate. The interview was normal. The manager went through the paper and asked the questions. I was a little nervous because this was my first real interview for a job EVER. Needless to say, I didn't get the job. In October as the holidays approached, I applied again to become a seasonal sales associate. I was called and did a phone interview. It was very easy. She asked me a few questions and then hired me. I just want to tell everyone DON'T GIVE UP!!! The seasonal sales associate position can lead to part time so do your best!!!

Filled out application online and was later asked to schedule an interview. Went to the interview 30 minutes early. Dressed in all black (pants, blouse, blazer). Greeted by an employee and later sat down with interviewer. Was asked only 4 questions. Very comfortable and easy. Questions on glass door definitely helped, so look them before interview! Didn't get the job because they wanted someone with open availability.

The interview was casual and easy, I loved my boss, she was kind and sympathetic to everyone's individual needs. She even allowed me to charge for a new pair of comfortable shoes to wear until I got my first paycheck, I thought that was so kind of her and showed her trust in her employee's. I would work for Macy's again in a heart beat ! It would get quite busy and sometimes you didn't get to ring up your own sales and as a result one time I didn't make nearly the amount of commission sales I should have and she was quite disappointed in the girls for that, but I learned from that experience, this was back in the late 1990's so I don't know if they have upgraded the system for recording your sales in the cash register, but I thought it could of been more fail proof and easier at the time to say the least. Overall I loved it and would and will work for them again, I love Macy's it's like a second home to me and I especially love it at Christmas time with all the decoration's and music, it wouldn't be Christmas to me without it !!

Applied online in late October. Got an email the same day saying I would be getting a call soon. I waited and got a bit discouraged until I got a call in early November for a phone interview. Call was a little over 15 minutes and the questions were pretty easy. Was offered a position on the phone.

I was rejected! I cannot imagine why. Is it because I put down that I have an M.A.?
The process for Macy's is an online app - as is usual these days. They ask three or more pages of questions that were obviously designed to weed out certain personality types. The questions are repeated (in different ways) as many as five times.I thought I was answering correctly although I know there are no correct answers - but things like "do you feel responsible to always stop what you are doing to help out another associate" are obvious - or so I thought. The wording is complicated. Sometimes I would, other times, I would not. It all depends on the circumstances, and in retail you cannot always drop what you are doing at the moment. They are also keyed to see how you accept authority "Would you always tell a supervisor if they were wrong" (again of course, depends...)
I was really counting on this job. Not to be conceited, but I am very personable outgoing and well presented. I also love retail stores. Do not have years of experience, but thought seasonal would be a good way in, thought they hired freely as it is so easy to fire these days.
