    Interview

She informed me that its not a job that pays you every week and she already got people on the payroll that haven't even worked yet. And you don't get set hours and its basically on-call. I've already been interviewed by them 4 times so good luck to anyone applying.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's in July 2015.

    Interview

It was very easy, relaxed- almost informal. There were only five questions read from a script, and ther person interviewing me wrote notes the whole time. He left the room for a minute and when he came back I was offered the job right then and there.

    Interview Questions

    • Why Macy's? Give an example of a time you worked in a team and what was the outcome. What would you do if you saw someone doing something they weren't supposed to? How would you feel if you had to work in a department you don't normally work in? And lastly, availability.   Answer Question

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Macy's (Spokane Valley, Spokane, WA) in February 2015.

    Interview

I arrived early at the location specified for the interview and waited about 3 minutes before the manager himself arrived to greet me and lead me to his office. After asking a question, listening to my response, and taking notes, he would explain the job in detail and what it would require of me. All of the questions were about theoretical scenarios, probably because I had no work history that directly related to the position. Very friendly and energetic.

    Interview

When you apply online and are emailed an invitation to schedule an appointment, the appointments aren't usually there the first time. I had to schedule mine a week after my application was accepted. Also, it's best to arrive early enough so you have time to actually find the interview room. I walked around for 10 minutes looking for it until I asked an associate to lead me to the waiting room herself. This didn't leave me a lot of time to review my prepared questions/answers. But when I brought in, the lady was friendly and diffused my nervousness fairly quickly. Now, I've never really had much experience in corporate retailing like Macy's, so some of the questions, she had to clarify. It went fairly quickly, only 15 minutes max. The main reason is probably because the job I applied for was already filled, but she said she'd keep my application for whenever they were in need. Overall, it was a pleasant interview. Questions I remember her asking me dealt with... Why I chose Macy's. It's best to do your research here. She was impressed that I mentioned Macy's has been around since 1858 and that it grew in size and reputation. What integrity meant to me and to clarify/give an example. (They need to know they can trust you, because most of the time during the job you won't be supervised. You'd be given instructions/some direction and the rest is all on you.) When working with a group provide an example of what you did when someone wasn't pulling their weight (this is asked because they want to know how you'll respond should it happen during the job. ie, you pick up the slack, you talk to them about it, tell the manager..etc.) For me, every time my co-worker wasn't pulling her weight, I'd pick up the slack for her. But I did tell my interviewer that if it's a recurring problem, I would tell her to help and tell the manager. Have you ever sold anything by yourself. What was my availability? (For this kind of job the hours are everywhere. There's no guarantee that you'd actually be working the 9 hours advertised. Because of this, the job is technically on-call. For me, I have open availability, and can handle that.) She talked about the different kinds of racks merchandisers work with; hanging for clothes/dresses, and flat for boxes. The goal for the support team would be to finish processing one rack in one hour. Each rack (hanging is what we discussed) can hold up to 150 double-racked, and 50-60 single racked. She asked how I'd go about making the goal. I said I'd make it a game, (she laughed at this) then that I'd see if I could take the challenge. I wasn't asked Macy's credit card questions, anything about clothes or up-selling a product.

    Interview Questions

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Macy's (Rochester, NY) in December 2014.

    Interview

I applied online and recieved an email for an interview in a few days. I couldn't make an earlier interview date than December as I was back at school during that time. I showed up to the interview and the lady told me that all the positions were filled but they'd go ahead and do the interview anyway. Which I thought was pointless. Anyway it was easy, I never did get a job but the lady seemed like she just didn't want to be there or doing it.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Macy's (Chicago, IL) in August 2014.

    Interview

I applied online about 2 weeks ago, and few days after I applied I was emailed to schedule my appointment, but unfortunate for me the earliest I could get was about a week and a half later. Anyway I did my research, I personally decided to wear all black( slacks, black button up, and the darkest shade of brown boots). I arrived about 15min early, greeted everyone in sight and sat down waiting. Fast forward to the actual interview, my interview was quite pleasant. The department manager was very understanding that this would be my very first official job(even though i've done tons of voluntary work over the past several years). He also explained to me there were 3 type of positions involved in this particular department, which were merchandising/stocking(replenishment), processing( loading and unloading trucks), and pricing(price tagging, etc). I made it clear to him I was interested in the merchandising/stocking position, after a few more questions and scenarios, he said he would like to hire me. I start orientation/training next monday, I'll be more than happy to provide that experience as well if this review is received well.

    Negotiation

After our conversation, and his series of questions, he offered me the job. He was very considerate into making sure i was interested in the position, and I happily accepted. Also he mentioned that there will be paid training, but minimum wage(in Chicago, thats $8.25), and after training I would be making $8.50 an hour.
