I applied through college or university - interviewed at Marcus & Millichap.

    Interview Details

Entry-level position that requires little to no experience. I was interviewed by one of their Regional Managers. Began with a simple resume walkthrough and questions about interest in commercial real estate. This job is 100% commission based, and you are required to participate in their 3 month training program which YOU have to pay almost $2000 to do. Coming in with little to no experience, you will not make a single dime for a period on at least 8-12 months.

    Interview Questions
    • Would you be willing to sell off your stocks and other investments to support yourself during the 8-12 month period where you would be making no money?   Answer Question
    Reasons for Declining

Due to it being 100% commission based, and having to pay almost $2000 for a training program created too much financial risk. Also, I was asked personal questions about how much I had in savings and investments. The Regional Manager asked if I would be willing to sell off my stocks I own to support myself during this time period. This was a ridiculous request in my opinion, and creates a large amount of risk for someone who is fresh out of college and trying to support themselves.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months - interviewed at Marcus & Millichap.

    Interview Details

Expect to meet 5-7 times for interviews. Interview questions are fairly standard. Just be tough. Everyone in the industry can see and hear fear from across the room so just act as if. You are their because you know the turnover rate is high and that is what you find most appealing about the position.

    Interview Questions
    • All the questions were pretty straight forward. Don't be like those people rehearse your answers OR you will get thrown some weird questions bcause again, they saw fear and they are going to get amusement out of it. Answer straight up.... "Why do you want to work here.?" Because I want to make a ton of money and I need you to teach me how to do that. When can i start? Boom. Be tough and don't rehearse your answers. That is for wimps.   Answer Question

Went in to talk with the hiring manager and had a good talk. Supplied a packet of information and wanted to make sure that this is really something that I wanted to do and to get back to him after I had looked it over and thought about it.

Interview was pretty straight forward. I think they were just looking for my ability to articulate my thoughts. Their business models involves getting as many people in place to succeed, with the thought that the cream will rise to the top and the dead wood will move on.

I applied online. The process took 1 week - interviewed at Marcus & Millichap in July 2013.

    Interview Details

Got contacted by the Manager and scheduled an interview for a week later. I've arrived about 20 minutes early, so to have time to review my resume and strong points. There was a lot of materials on the waiting area, which gave me a few extra points that I didn't have on my regular research.
The manager was very professional and we were able to relate almost immediately, since our past and present activities coincided.
Overall the interview was very straight forward; looked over resume, talked about the things i can offer the company and vice-versa. Once the interview was over, about an hour later, I took a personality test, which took me about 40 minutes to finish, and was asked to think about the position and provide an answer within a couple of days. I was also asked, in the case I had accepted the offer, to compose a business plan to demonstrate how I intended on achieving my goals within the company.
    So:
Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours there.
Research the company until you're fluent with the company's mission, activities and history.
Arrive early in order to review your information and maybe learn new things.
Try to relate to the interviewer; talk to the front desk person in order to learn things and make yourself more knowledgeable during the interview.
Get familiar with sales, the real estate market and business planning concepts, since that'll help you in the long run.
Make sure to send a thank you email later that day.

    Negotiation Details
No negotiation necessary, this position is 100% commission. Be prepared when going on a interview with at least a comfortable cushion, between 6 - 12 months of saved salary.

I applied online - interviewed at Marcus & Millichap.

    Interview Details

I went in as a new comer to the real estate business. I sat in on a presentation by the hiring regional manager. He was to the point and explained the company's objectives and direction using a Power Point Presentation slide show. The presenter mentioned out of a room of 25 people he only had one opening, which was a bit nerve wrecking.

    Interview Questions
    • After the presentation, I went in for a second interview and noticed a discrepancy in the material presented. The commission split was not as he had presented at the first interview. Perhaps this was a way to dissuade me from going further. He was also firm about the long hours required without pay realistically for two years. I was very discouraged and didn't see a point in pursuing this job any further.   View Answer

I had a sequence of 3 interviews. They want to see that you are aggressive and you follow through. I have heard of a manager not calling back to see that you will take the initiative and make the call again yourself.
