I applied through college or university and interviewed at Microsoft.

Interview Details – Did not make it past the first round of phone interviews

Interview Question – The questions were really logic based and out of the ordinary. They really just want to see how you think.   Answer Question

Interviewed at Microsoft

Interview Details – Had a 30 min phone interview mainly about my coursework and project. Its been almost 4 weeks now and I have not heard from them regarding my result. I have emailed the HR about 5-6 times and she has not even answered once. This puts a big doubt about Microsoft's hiring process. It appears that they do not value people's time. With the HR not replying, I do not know how to know my result. I have not had such an experience with any other company.

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Microsoft in November 2013.

Interview Details – A recruiter contacted me through linkedin and asked me if I have interest in intern opportunities at Microsoft. Then I followed the instruction and submitted all the required materials. Within one week, they scheduled me a one-hour interview in which there were some behaviors questions and then followed by some technical questions.

Interview Question – 1. How do you test a key board?
2. Given nine items and one of them is heavier than the others, how do you find the heavier one using a scale just twice?

I applied online and the process took 2 months - interviewed at Microsoft.

Interview Details – Applied online on October. Got informed from HR on January. Then had a non technical HR phone screen. I did't get through this interview.
There are two portions for this interview.
First are some typical behavioral questions. Describe the hardest project, etc. And there are some weird questions like what's the most number of lines of code you've written in one project. What's a language that you are most familiar with.
Then the brain teaser question. The nine ball question. It's everywhere online.

Interview Question – What's the most number of lines of code you've written in one project?   Answer Question

Software Development Engineer In Test (SDET) Intern Interview

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Microsoft in November 2013.

Interview Details – Interview process was very pleasant. I had a single phone interview (problem solving in nature) and was then flown out to Redmond a month or so later. Microsoft gives you plenty of resources to do the things you want while you're out there, so take advantage of it. They'll pay for cab fares, but I recommend getting a rental, to make sure that you're on time to wherever you need to be. On the interview day, I was shuttled to HQ with a group of other candidates (about 15 others). We had lunch and learned about the interview process. There were a total of 4 45 minute interviews, each with a different person. Each interview was pretty similar: about 15 minutes getting to know you and about 30 minutes of coding/problem solving. The questions weren't too bad...make sure your answers are geared towards a testing standpoint.

Interview Question – A question that I was not ready for was a networking question: about how traceroute works. The interviewer gave hints. It had to do with the TTL of a packet.   Answer Question
