I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Microsoft in July 2008.

Interview Details – Telephone Interview : I was asked to write a code then walk through the code.
in Person : I had 10 rounds. In all rounds, I was asked to write code. Either algorithm of simple c function or to solve complex word based puzzles using algorithms.
I cleared 9 rounds. I had last round with the Unit Head. He gave me a puzzle, which I think i messed up. I did not make it. Later My recruiter told me that I was rejected not because of code, but because i did not ask enough questions.

The process took a day - interviewed at Microsoft in June 2010.

Interview Details – The question was given the definition of a Fibonacci sequence, write a function to give the n-th term of the sequence. I recognized right off the bat that there was both a recursive and non recursive solution to the problem. I wanted to code the non recursive solution because it would be inherently better than the recursive solution. However, the interviewer asked me to do the recursive one instead. I stumbled a little bit with the special cases but quickly realized my error and came up with the correct solution. My concern was that I did not slam dunk this like most people do but I still managed to come up with the correct solution. Problem is I'm not quick enough.

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Microsoft in January 2010.

Interview Details – Exchanged emails with the recruiters for weeks. Finally, contacted and had a phone interview. This interview went well. Got into a coding example. Mostly questions related to why I wanted to work for MS and the job description.

I then received another email from someone regarding another interview. I spoke with the recruiter and did another 30 min phone interview. I have an interview coming up that will consist of 3 interviews with separate team members and if I am a successful candidate, I will have a few more interviews. These will be 1:1 interviews.
