Associate In Fixed Income IT Interview

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Morgan Stanley in January 2008.

Interview Details – The interview process consisted of about four different technical interviews with technical managers and senior developers. The interviewers were generally skilled at asking questions that ascertained technical aptitude rather than simple familiarity with particular technologies or ability to solve arbitrary brain teasers. The HR interview was simple and straightforward. The hiring process moved quickly and I had an offer in hand within a week of interviewing.

I applied through an employee referral and the process took a day - interviewed at Morgan Stanley in January 2011.

Interview Details – I spoke with an executive director who was a mutual connection and they brought me in their offices for an interview a week later. Spoke with 3 separate executive directors and were asked behavioral questions about me, my past and then questions about my thoughts on the market. Each interview was a one on one experience. No question was overly difficult, they were concerned about your people skills and if you were genuinely interested in private wealth management

Operations Associate Interview

Operations Associate
Baltimore, MD

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Morgan Stanley in June 2012.

Interview Details – I landed an interview through a referral within the company. After applying through a referral link I was contacted via email a couple days later asking me to come in for 3 1:1 interviews. I was actually pretty optimistic because they did not even ask me to do a preliminary phone interview. The office seemed to be staffed with a lot of young friendly professionals and had a positive atmosphere.
The interview itself was very laid back and informal which was surprising considering how large and corporate MS is. I left feeling pretty good about it the whole thing however, after 3 weeks of follow up calls and emails I learned that that I was not awarded an offer.
In hindsight though I am not surprised because there seems to be a large disconnect between HR, staff and the "hiring department'.

Analyst/Associate Interview

The process took 2 months - interviewed at Morgan Stanley in October 2011.

Interview Details – I saw a job posted on the Morgan Stanley careers site and submitted my application. A few days later, HR reached out to schedule an in-person interview.

The first interview I met with two people at my same level. We talked about my background and experience, and they provided their insight into the company. They were fairly junior, so were not terribly proficient in interviewing.

I then heard nothing for about a month until they emailed again to schedule the second interview later that week. That one was with the hiring manger. We spoke more about the role, the department, but also the financial services industry as a whole. Was more of a conversation than straight up interview.

Interview Question – Tell me about how you see the industry right now.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I was changing industry's so I had far less leverage to negotiate. Regardless, the offer was on target with the industry and my expectations.
