I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months - interviewed at Morgan Stanley in December 2012.

    Interview Details

I participated in recruitment while I was abroad for my entire Junior year. I received a first round interview after I emailed a recruiter explaining why I wanted to pursue an internship with Equity Research and specifically Morgan Stanley. I had a first round interview, which was followed up with a Superday interview with 4 employees and managers in the NYC offices over winter break. Afterwards, I received an offer which I accepted.

    Interview Questions
    • If you had $100,000, would you invest it short term into the stock market or keep it in cash? (Asked right after the fiscal cliff legislation was passed)   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
They told me the day after my final round interview that they wanted to wait and see the other candidates before making an official decision (due in Feb). Shortly afterwards I received an internship offer with McKinsey & Company. I notified Morgan Stanley and they immediately turned around with an offer, which I accepted.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days - interviewed at Morgan Stanley in January 2008.

    Interview Details

The interview process consisted of about four different technical interviews with technical managers and senior developers. The interviewers were generally skilled at asking questions that ascertained technical aptitude rather than simple familiarity with particular technologies or ability to solve arbitrary brain teasers. The HR interview was simple and straightforward. The hiring process moved quickly and I had an offer in hand within a week of interviewing.

I spoke with an executive director who was a mutual connection and they brought me in their offices for an interview a week later. Spoke with 3 separate executive directors and were asked behavioral questions about me, my past and then questions about my thoughts on the market. Each interview was a one on one experience. No question was overly difficult, they were concerned about your people skills and if you were genuinely interested in private wealth management

    Operations Associate Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate  in  Baltimore, MD

    Application Details

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Morgan Stanley in June 2012.

    Interview Details

I landed an interview through a referral within the company. After applying through a referral link I was contacted via email a couple days later asking me to come in for 3 1:1 interviews. I was actually pretty optimistic because they did not even ask me to do a preliminary phone interview. The office seemed to be staffed with a lot of young friendly professionals and had a positive atmosphere.
The interview itself was very laid back and informal which was surprising considering how large and corporate MS is. I left feeling pretty good about it the whole thing however, after 3 weeks of follow up calls and emails I learned that that I was not awarded an offer.
In hindsight though I am not surprised because there seems to be a large disconnect between HR, staff and the "hiring department'.
