Consultant at Navigant Consulting

No Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Jan 2013 – Reviewed Mar 26, 2013

Interview Details – Started out with a phone interview with a recruiter. This was very brief. Then went on to a consultant in the department. They primarily focused on why I wanted to work there, what my expectations were, how acquainted I was with the position, asked me to describe a difficult team situation.

Analyst at Navigant Consulting

No Offer – Interviewed in Chicago, IL Nov 2012 – Reviewed Dec 5, 2012

Interview Details – I was contacted one day prior to the interview that the company was interested in my experience. I was given less than 24 hours to prepare for the interview. When I arrived I was escorted into a room of three current analysts/consultants who were young, new hires. This was very informal. For the next portion of the interview, I was ushered into another room where the senior consultant asked standard interview questions: tell me about yourself, why do you think you'd be appropriate for this position, etc. Finally, I was interviewed by the leaving analyst. This was as informal as the first round.

Interview Question – The most unexpected question the interviewer inquired was "This is obviously not your ideal end job. What do you see yourself doing in the future?"   Answer Question

No Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY – Reviewed Aug 1, 2012

Interview Details – Final round interview was in the NYC office. Consisted of one case study, 4 hour long behavioral interviews and one presentation for the recruiting committee.

Case study was pretty straight forward if you've done lots of practices.
Behavioral interviews were also standard.
Presentation required preparation beforehand. HR personnel will email a topic beforehand, and we had to create a 10 minute presentation before interview day.

Technical Editor at Navigant Consulting

No Offer – Interviewed in Boulder, CO Jun 2010 – Reviewed May 11, 2011

Interview Details – I already knew one of the principals at the Boulder office. He asked if I knew of anybody who'd be a good fit for this position, and I said "Yes, Me!" I went through the co.'s standard application process, passed the HR dept.'s initial phone screen, and was then brought into the Boulder office for an editing test and 1-on-1 interviews with five different people. They even flew in the supervisor for this position from Washington, DC, just to interview me for an hour(!). I thought everything went well, and they said they needed somebody for this position "yesterday."

I never heard anything back from them without me calling first. After several attempts, one of the HR people in Chicago said that they did offer the job to somebody else. I can understand not being called in for an interview after submitting a less-than-ideal resume, or not hearing anything more after a less-than-ideal phone screen ... but to not get back with anything after a half-day of interviews & testing speaks volumes about this co.'s need for <vastly> imprroved communications ... !

No Offer – Interviewed in Denver, CO Feb 2011 – Reviewed Feb 24, 2011

Interview Details – Had a 1:1 on-campus interview with someone from the office I would be working at. First asked questions that he had highlighted about my resume and then went over behavior questions. Overall, I wasn't impressed by the interview at all. Was very scripted and he just read questions from a piece of paper that he had asked everyone before me.

Didn't really introduce himself or ask me about myself, why I want the job, etc. and seemed like he just wanted to get out of there. He asked me basically the same behavior question twice, just worded slightly differently. I felt I answered the questions OK given how uncomfortable the whole process felt, but he definitely wasn't someone I wanted to work with even if I had gotten the job.

Interview Question – How have you managed multiple projects in the past?   Answer Question

Non-consulting Position at Navigant Consulting

No Offer – Interviewed in Washington, DC Sep 2010 – Reviewed Nov 1, 2010

Interview Details – Applied online directly for the job. Got called by recruiter from Chicago for a phone screen. After that, was scheduled for a phone interview with the hiring manager. Sent thank you email to the hiring manager, and he replied back directly, which was nice. He called me to schedule a phone interview with HIS manager who was based in Chicago headquarters. Not sure what the point of that interview was since it seemed to be impromptu - was it another screen or more informational? Then the hiring manager scheduled an interview in-person. Didn't know sometimes whether to contact the recruiter or the hiring manager, and the recruiter confessed he didn't quite know where things stood at one point. Not sure they have their interview process down. The floor of the building I interviewed on was amazingly sparse - very few signs of life - felt like an abandoned office with exposed ceilings and empty cubes lined with offices around the perimeter. Interview w/ the hiring manager took over an hour - there was a defined list of interview questions, but once we got talking, the interview became more conversational. Then I met with another office support staff and was asked if I've ever been in a work environment where you had to just deal with what came down the chain.

Interview Question – (paraphrased) Why are you looking to leave your current job?   Answer Question
