Staff Accountant at Novogradac & Company

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in San Francisco, CA Jul 2012 – Reviewed Apr 3, 2013

Interview Details – I was first contacted for a phone interview with the recruiter. Other than being asked the general interview questions (tell me about yourself, why public accounting, etc), be prepared to answer questions about your resume and about the company. Make sure you have some idea about what they do. The phone interview lasted about 30 minutes.

A few days later I received an email for the first round in-house interview, which consisted an interview with the supervisor and an assessment test, which lasted about 45 minutes. I think if you've done well in intro to financial accounting, you should be fine. A few days later the recruiter contacted me and asked me to come back for a second in-house interview, which consisted of interviews with the staff accountant, supervisor, manager and partner. Ask a lot of questions, be yourself and you should be fine. All my interviewers were pretty down to earth and I think HR did a pretty good job in notifying candidates in a prompt manner about where they are in the interview process.

Interview Question – Tell me about an idea that you pushed for. What were the results?   Answer Question

Staff Accountant at Novogradac & Company

No Offer – Interviewed in San Francisco, CA Dec 2012 – Reviewed Jan 1, 2013

Interview Details – I've received an email from the company's recruiter the next day after I applied online. We scheduled the phone interview next day after that which took around 20-30 minutes. Typical interview questions were asked including "Why do you want to work in public accounting", "Most/least rewarding experince you had", "Your salary expectations", etc. Then I emailed them my unofficial transcrips. Four days later I received another email saying I was selected to proceed to the next step of the recruiting process which is 3 hour office visit. 5 days later I've met with the recruiter, the Staff Accountant and two managers who were all very nice and professional. The questions were regarding my resume, and typical interview questions like "What are your best skills", "How do you manage to work under pressure", "What do you know about the company", etc. There was also a 45-minute test for the basic knowledge of Excel and accounting principles. Please, revise your amortization/depreciation knowledge for the test. Overall, I had a great experience interviewing with Novogradac & Company and I'm supposed to hear from them this week regarding the internship.

Interview Question – Are you willing to travel? It's an internship position in SF so I was not expecting this question.   Answer Question

Staff Accountant Intern at Novogradac & Company

No Offer – Interviewed in Saint Louis, MO Oct 2012 – Reviewed Nov 25, 2012

Interview Details – I applied online and received a phone interview after 2 days. After a week the recruiter called in. Overall the interview is easy, questions about your resume, how much you know about the company, no situational questions. The recruiter was not very professional and was not enthusiastic about his job. I feel like he doesn't know much about his own company because he failed to answer some of my questions.

Interview Question – What did you find on the company's website that interests you most? Explain why you are interested in it.
What is your most favorite/least favorite accounting class? Why?
