Anesthesia Technician Interview

Anesthesia Technician

I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at OHSU in August 2013.

Interview Details – I applied online as required for the position, then they contacted me for an interview. It was to be a position for the South Operating Rooms. I met 2 senior anesthesia technicians, and they were both very friendly. I got to see some of the South OR, which was a huge area of the OHSU Hospital on the Marquam Hill Campus.

Interview Question – What would you do if a co-worker wasn't pulling his or her own weight at the job?   Answer Question

MRI Technologist Interview

MRI Technologist
Portland, OR

I applied online - interviewed at OHSU in March 2014.

Interview Details – Following a 90-minute in-person interview with two members of department leadership, and a tour of the department, I was told "You'll definitely be hearing from us." After several weeks passed with no word, I contacted the recruiter, and was told that the position had been filled without anyone bothering to notify me. I had expected more from OHSU; but now I don't know why.

Interview Question – Two basic technical questions regarding the specific field of work for which I was applying.   Answer Question

Research Assistant Interview

Research Assistant
Beaverton, OR

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at OHSU in May 2012.

Interview Details – This job was for a research assistant position in an OHSU lab that studies the effects of alcohol on primates. The interview was fairly straight forward. I was given a tour of the facillity by my interviewer, which was very interesting. I was also introduced to a range of current employees. Questions were nothing unexpected. Essentially, the job wasn't a perfect fit for me because more of my prior research experience related to alcohol use in humans.

Interview Question – I was asked if I would mind doing some manual labor cleaning cages, etc.   Answer Question

Interview Details – I applied online and after 2 weeks I received an invite for an interview. The interview was with the PI and lasted ~1 hour. Social Worker Interview

Social Worker
Portland, OR

I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at OHSU in August 2011.

Interview Details – This review is regarding a phone interview only. Following the phone interview I withdrew from consideration. The phone interviewer spent most of the time chuckling about her own experiences and that of the few job duties she would describe. Perhaps she wanted to just get a "feel" for me. I found the interview overall very incomplete, leaving me with many unanswered questions. I stated I had a lot of experience performing one key role. She assumed this to be the case and did not ask me any questions to verify. Always verify. Sometimes people exagerrate in interviews, I don't. Incisive questions need to be asked. I suppose I could have simply gone with the flow, but I am a professional health provider. I wondered how this person got their job. What kind of environment would I be entering?

Field Technology Analyst Interview

Field Technology Analyst

I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at OHSU.

Interview Details – OHSU is extremely thorough when it comes to hiring within IT. Being public they are required to create a job posting, leave it up for a specific amount of weeks, then bring in a specific amount of initial candidates even if they all along planned on promoting within.

Step 1) Email from hiring manager inviting candidate to begin initial testing. This consisted of a 1.5-2 hour written exam with short answer, multiple choice, and essay. There were about 50 candidates in this room

Step 2) Email from hiring manager inviting candidate who successfully passed the written test and falls in the top 25% to do a hands on test. This consists of 3 testing stations.

Step 3) Email from hiring manager inviting candidate who successfully passed the hands on test inviting candidate in for a panel interview. My panel of 10 ITG employees and lasted an hour.

Overall all the employees were great people with generally long tenures averaging 8-12 years. There didn't seem to be the "know it all" who asks questions solely to show off their own knowledge in front of their peers you almost always see in IT interviews. Knowing how great ITG at OHSU is I can see why hiring is so cuthroat despite the wages being on the lower end vs market rate.

Interview Question – Explain a situation you were in the minority but knew you were right. How did you handle it?   Answer Question

Finance Interview

I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at OHSU in April 2010.

Interview Details – I had an initial phone conversation with an administrative person which lasted about 20 minutes. I was then asked to give them my availability for a panel interview. The panel consisted of 7 people. 3 of them seemed to be at a supervisory level and the rest of them appeared to be at a peer level. I thought the interview went well and the people were very professional.
