Senior Sales Consultant Interview

Senior Sales Consultant

I applied through an employee referral and interviewed at Office Depot.

Interview Details – I dropped off my completed application to the man running the cash register(the store manager). He was friendly and enthusiastic. I was asked to fill out a questionaire right then. I was called in for an interview a week or two later. After three short interviews I was sent for a drug test and was hired shortly there after.

Interview Question – The store manager asked me if I had another job.   View Answer

I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Office Depot in January 2013.

Interview Details – Was odd... skipped the whole application process... went all the way to drug testing... wasn't called for a month... when I was in... took months to get my first check.

Interview Question – My store manager was pretty straight forward with his questionnaire, so no issues here.   Answer Question

I applied in-person and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Office Depot.

Interview Details – was not expecting to get hired but now i am in I am actually sad. Paid is so important to me because that is what us workers need. The interview is easy to get in but don't let them fool you. They will not agree to what they said and paid you as less as possible. It is just barely to minimum

Associate Store Manager Interview

Associate Store Manager
Minneapolis, MN

I applied online and the process took 2 months - interviewed at Office Depot in January 2014.

Interview Details – Saw a sign saying they were hiring while I was shopping there. TT an associate who said I could list him as a referral source & if I got hired he'd get a whopping $100 referral bonus! Should've been an indicator right there. From there assessment, f2f w/ store mgr from location applied at, f2f w/ different store mgr for another perspective, phone int w/ district manager & then oh' wait we filled that position, but we're looking for another Assistant Store Mgr at Office Max location cuz we just merged w/ them. Another f2f with that store mgr & then received vm saying I was better suited for a sales spec position that starts at $11/hour or $22k/yr. They put me through the ringer for a position that starts at $15.20/hour?!?!

Interview Question – nothing unexpected ur usual situational ?'s   Answer Question

Senior Manager Interview

Senior Manager
Signal Hill, CA

I applied online - interviewed at Office Depot in November 2013.

Interview Details – Applied for position online. Went through automated assessment which includes a few vague situational questions that left me unsure of what they were looking for. Received a call a couple weeks later from HR. The woman was screening for applicants that she felt were qualified to move on to a live interview. I was asked to come in after she confirmed that my profile fit the position. (To be honest, she seemed to be a bit of an 'air head'). Next interview was with someone from HR. Meeting was brief. Then met with an assistant general manager. He was well-rehearsed with canned questions regarding "what would you do if...?" and "when you made a mistake how did you fix it?" He didn't appear to be listening to my answers. In fact, most of the time I had to sit and listen to him brag about how successful he was and, basically, 'this place couldn't run without me' kind of attitude. I thought, "if this is the person I'm going to be reporting to, maybe I should just keep looking." The ego was too much. It's been a few weeks and I haven't heard back. And, in reality, I hope I don't.

Interview Question – If you review the basic behavioral questions that most companies ask and have an experience to share you will be way ahead of the person that interviewed me. But be prepared to listen to a lot of egotistical bragging. It's unreal.   Answer Question

Department Manager/Assistant Manager Interview

Department Manager/Assistant Manager

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Office Depot in July 2013.

Interview Details – I was contacted by a recruiter based on a resume I had posted with an on-line job board. We scheduled a time for a phone interview--the recruiter based in Chicago would call me at the appointed time. She was 15 minutes late, but the interview went well. She was very personable, and the questions were fairly standard behavioral questions--"Describe your most difficult sale", "Tell me about a time when you had a disappointed customer", "What did you enjoy most about your last job".

I asked some questions at the end, but it was left very positive. She said she was going to recommend me for an interview with the store manager. She said to be sure to complete the on-line application, and take the on-line assessment. If I do not hear anything within 2 days of completing that, to give her a call. She wanted to be sure I "did not fall through the cracks" because I was " a great candidate".

The on-line application took some time because there was not a job posting for the store for which I interviewed, and the system froze whenever I attempted to download my resume. I finally just copied and pasted it. I sent the recruiter an e-mail alerting her to the issues, and I also let her know that I had completed the assessment. The assessment is fairly standard, although some of the questions were a bit tricky--"I never lie", "I never think about not following the rules"--if you're really honest, you cannot say you Strongly Agree to those 2 (especially the first one). In any event it was all completed and I waited the two plus days--no word. I e-mailed the recruiter per her instructions--no word. I called the recruiter a couple of days later and left a voice message--no word. Obviously, I got the message and stopped following up.

I question the value of using 3rd party recruiters when they lie to candidates, and are too lazy to follow up as they promise. It certainly paints a poor picture for me of the quality of the employer--Office Depot in this instance--when they utilize such sloppy recruiters for such a key business function.

Interview Question – None were very difficult if you prepare in advance.   Answer Question
