Sales Associate - Office Max Interview

Sales Associate - Office Max

I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at OfficeMax.

Interview Details – My Interview was a bit odd the person interviewing me seemed nerves, her face was red and the questions were not questions I had prepared myself for from reading other questions fro other sites. It didn't seem like they cared about my answers as much as just getting someone in to fill the position. If you are a brown nosier this particular store will work for you. The staff and management were lazy and spent most of the day talking about customers and new employees. They never had more than one cashier on staff, which didn't make sense because the mangers or key holders were not expected to jump on and help you.

Interview Question – The questions were simple.   Answer Question

I applied in-person and the process took 2 days - interviewed at OfficeMax in July 2009.

Interview Details – I loved the people I worked with and the culture of the company seems to be rather strong and fair in values. I only had 1 interview which I was called in for after I paid a visit to the store in person to introduce myself to the manager. She was not in so the ASM mentioned my name to her. She called me, I went in and interviewed, and 2 days later was called and offered a job.

Interview Question – Describe a time you had to make a sale.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – What my pay would be and the hours I would be working.

Difficult Interview

Sales Associate - Office Max Interview

Sales Associate - Office Max

The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at OfficeMax in June 2011.

Interview Details – I was passing by an OfficeMax store looking for a job so i thought I should apply there. Went online and navigated through the menus until i got to the OfficeMax in my area. I saw there was a sales associate position avaliable so I applied online. About two weeks later I finally got a call to set an interview. It was the Assis. Manager that interviewed me. She was nice and told me that she was new to the job. We didn't interview in a office but in the furniture part of the store. The questions we're not that standard. Before I left I went online to look for job interview questions I might face but the Assis. Manager asked me none of those. Instead she asked me if I worked best on a team, whether I was experienced with technology, etc. Finally she asked me to sell me something in the vicinity. I froze for about 5 seconds before asking if I could look around. I chose a desk and asked my questions before offering my pitch. She smiled and jotted down her notes. After she told me that there could be a 2nd interview with the main manager or that I could just be offered the job. About a week later I was called and told to attend a 2nd interview with the sales manager. The 2nd one was easier as she only asked a few basic questions before confrming my phone number. She said I would get a call if I was offered the job. A couple days later I got the call to come in. So I did and I signed some papers and did a drug test and that was that. The manager shook my hand and said "Congratulations" I Hope This Helped. :)

Sales Associate - Office Max Interview

Sales Associate - Office Max

The process took 5 days - interviewed at OfficeMax in September 2010.

Interview Details – Was interviewed by the Store Manager and Assistant Manager at the same time, and they went through some standardized questions. They asked me to role play with a few sales situations, for example "How would you sell me this computer", The key to answering questions like those, that the managers are really looking for, is add-ons! Remember after giving a small pitch on why to buy that computer, to mention printers, internet security, Microsoft Office software, wireless networking, even digital cameras! But the MOST important thing to mention is the MaxCare protection plan, that is a big thing for the managers! It can be applied to pretty much any electronic you can think of, so if they want you to pitch them a printer, remember to mention MaxCare!

I suggest walking around the store a bit before your interview, and researching a little about the MaxCare plans, as those are a big thing for the managers, and my knowledge of those plans after researching them online, may very well have been a big reason I got an offer.

After applying online it took them 3 months to call me in for an interview, so if you haven't heard back yet, don't be too disappointing, it'll take time. You might call the store manager, or go in person for a visit, and bring up your application. I've found the managers very easy to get a hold of over the phone.

The manager called my 2 days after the interview and asked me to come in to sign an offer of employment, and to send me for a drug test, after that, training and that's that!
