I applied in-person. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Ogilvy & Mather in March 2011.

    Interview Details

I applied for the Associates Program through my school. I submitted my resume, cover letter, and writing samples.
After a few weeks, they emailed me to let me know that I was chosen for a 1:1 interview. The interview went well, they asked mostly behavioral questions because as most people know, they want to see if you exemplify their 8 habits.

After the interview, they called me within a few weeks to invite me to SuperSaturday (which is a challenge day).

I went into the interview thinking I was going for one brand, and it turns out I was interviewing 3 different groups of people for 3 different positions. It was confusing, and their HR department seems really scattered and disorganized. I left and then was called back for what I thought was a 2nd interview, but it turns out I was interviewing for 2 more positions. I did not get any of them because they hired someone with exact experience- even though one of the women was telling me straight up she wanted me on her team. Over all it left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I sent in my application through the ogilvy website and then heard back from them several weeks later and was told I had made it through the first stage. The second stage was in-person and consisted of two 45 minute interviews with two different recruiting coordinators. I received an email a week later that I was not accepted into the final round.

Obviously Ogilvy is a very established firm, and coming in to the interview, I was very nervous. The interview involved a lot of behaviorial questions that I had not been asked during other job interviews, so that kind of left me thinking on my feet. I ultimately did not get the offer, but wish anybody else you interviews for the Associate position the best of luck.

I applied through college or university. The process took 6 weeksinterviewed at Ogilvy & Mather in February 2012.

    Interview Details

After submitting a lengthy application, Ogilvy selected a handful of individuals to partake in on-campus interviews. This consisted of two 1:1 interviews with constituents from their local branch. One individual was a higher level executive - she was short and I could not get a good read on her at all. The other individual was much more lively and we had a great conversation. After interviewing, we had to wait another 4 weeks to see if we passed on to the second round interviews.

While the folks here were nice, their interview process was strange considering this was a job to be on call for them. At best, it was part-time, yet they made folks jump through hoops, interviewing dozens of folks, as if they were hiring a full-time staff person.

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Ogilvy & Mather in January 2014.

    Interview Details

Initial contact was made by the HR team via LinkedIn. The first step was a fast phone interview to inform about positions and confirm experience. A separate person will schedule the in-person interview--mine was rather presumptuous with my time, not informing me how much time to set aside and trying to book an additional round of interviews with an additional team without my knowledge.

I was there for 3+ hours and met with five members of the team. All of them were incredibly nice, looking for detailed information about experience and strategic points of view. I was offered to come back to meet with more people, but declined because I didn't feel the chemistry with the team.

    Interview Questions
    • I think that Ogilvy asks team members to throw a "curveball" question at the end of each interview. Each person that had time to ask me a last question asked a rather unexpected question. The two I remember are "What is one impression I have of you that is not true" and "Name a song that would be on the soundtrack of your life."   Answer Question

I applied through a recruiter – interviewed at Ogilvy & Mather.

    Interview Details

Initially found out about the job through a creative employment agency. Initial phone interview with HR. Then, went in for a 6-person rotating 1:1 interview - meeting with various groups within the organization. Asked situational questions and about my entrepreneurship. I was also asked questions about my management type and how to deal with unproductive subordinates.

Very lengthy process starting with an application requiring an example of what makes you creative... supposed to be something that helps them understand who you are and why they should want to work with you. This is basically your first interview and they have thousands of applicants each year.

In person interviews are invite only for which they usually fly to your campus. One HR director and one executive interview separately both asking similar questions. Guessing they overlap just to get congruity.

A third round is a full weekend of activities out in NY where they put you through all the hoops to see if you are the perfect fit.

They came to my university to talk about the program during the first semester of my senior year. I fell in love, it sounded amazing. There was an online application that I submitted directly through my school to them, which involved two writing prompts (why do you want a career in communications, and what was your biggest regret are the two I picked out of a few options). You also needed two references. I then got an interview once the recruiters came back to school – probably around 10 others were selected to interview at my school. The interviewer, an alum, asked a list of basic interview questions and had NOT read any of my prior materials. It felt like a waste of my time since he clearly was looking for certain answers to the questions and was just going down the list, without any interest in having genuine conversation. But if you're prepared with basic interview answers you should be ok. It's just highly competitive.
