Marketing Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at OpenTable.
Interview Details – The hiring/ application process consisted of 1 phone interview and 2 Skype interviews. The interviews were about 30 minutes long each, and were one on one. The whole process took about 2 weeks?
Interview Question – Everything was pretty straightforward. You should know how to use the basic office software and applications like Microsoft and Photoshop. Answer Question
Account Executive Interview (Neutral Experience; Average Interview)
I applied through an employee referral and the process took 3 days - interviewed at OpenTable in August 2013.
Interview Details – Three phone interviews and then an offer. I did not have to fly in to SF for interview.
Interview Question – They are looking for hunter, aggressive, challenger types. Filled out some silly questionnaire and took an online personality assessment. They didn't ask anything unusual, probably because they are the least creative people ever. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Quick. I was made an offer and I accepted right away. I did try to negotiate because I figured it couldn't hurt, but it wasn't up for negotiation.
Account Executive Interview (Positive Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied through other source and the process took 6 months - interviewed at OpenTable.
Interview Details – They will contact you via phone and ask you whether or not you are familiar with the company and what your dining habits are. Do you book via opentable etc... after that you will have a in person meeting with an area manager, then you will meet with several people at the corporate office in san francisco.
Interview Question – In some cases they will ask you to sell OpenTable to them in an interview so be prepared to have a sales pitch, and elevator pitch and a power point presentation. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – 6 months negotiation phase, i received stock, and a higher base salary than they were offering.
Very Easy Interview
Senior Software Engineer Interview (Negative Experience; Very Easy Interview)
I applied through a recruiter and the process took 6 weeks - interviewed at OpenTable in August 2012.
Interview Details – First round was a brief phone call, the second round was an in-person interview for 3 hours. I got a feeling that its one of the worst IT engineering places to work in the bay area. I just want to join the band of ppl at glassdoor who had horrid experience with the engineer aspect of this company. I would say even if you don't have a job don't go for the engineering team of this company, unless you wanna comprise and sacrifice your "SELF RESPECT"...thanks again glassdoor for letting me share my experience
Interview Question – how do use BDD Answer Question
Reason for Declining – Bad career option
Very Easy Interview
If You Dont Have A Job, Interview With OpenTable Interview (Negative Experience; Very Easy Interview)
The process took 5 days - interviewed at OpenTable in March 2012.
Interview Details – To interview with the ERB Team, you need basic C++ skills that can be answered over the phone, you can find them online.
The situation of the team is such that they are ready to hire anyone who is willing to work.
Especially, the managers have limitations, so they are not looking for smart people. They will ensure every interviewer will give a positive feedback, if you are not smarter than the managers.
Interview Question – Are you willing to work on obsolete technologies ? View Answer
Reason for Declining – After meeting the team, it seems that the negative engg reviews on glass door are real. Thank you glass door, my career is saved.
Sales Representative Interview (Neutral Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at OpenTable in September 2012.
Interview Details – Applied online, submitting resume, LinkedIn profile and cover letter. I had a recruiter give me a phone screen, followed by a sales manager phone screen. I was then invited for an in person interview with a sales vp and manager. I then had to supply references. The sales manager who interviewed me was tough (the recruiter warned me), but I actually appreciated the no nonsense.
Interview Question – No difficult or trick questions, expect some tough role play. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – No negotiating. Best benefits package around, a modest base, good commission structure, plus on target bonuses.
