I applied online. The process took 5 weeksinterviewed at Philips Lighting (San Jose, CA) in June 2014.

    Interview

Five phone interviews (30 minutes each) + a 2hr onsite interview with one of the HR directors and the hiring manager. HR Dir was 15 mins late, rude, argumentative & interrupted constantly during the interview. Definitely not a good candidate experience.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral – interviewed at Philips Lighting (Tupelo, MS) in November 2013.

    Interview

Overall, I had a bad experience with the recruiting process.

The role was based in Tupelo, MS. I got an interview for this position through a referral in the last term of my master's degree.

The first interview was with the HR who asked me basic questions like why Philips, why this role, how my internship work and degree would help me contribute on the job. It was easy.

The second interview was with a supply chain engineer and the plant manager at Tupelo. They asked more about my experience and projects and basic questions on procurement and operations management. These were not difficult either.

The third interview was onsite. Tupelo was a pretty ordinary town. I didn't find it endearing because I'm more of a big city guy. I was honestly only going for the role, which from the description, was good. The first interview onsite was with the HR again covering basic questions. Second was with the same supply chain engineer, kind of repetitive. Then I was given a plant tour. It was good. A good thing here is to ask intelligent questions which tells them you understand what's most important to a plant. The plant was massive; I think it's the largest Philips plant in North America, atleast it was at the time I interviewed. The third interview was with a director of engineering and supply chain who came down from Boston and another guy. The questions were - how would you estimate cost of a product? Some more questions around inventory and stocking and how would you negotiate with suppliers.

All was ok until the point I left and I was told they would get back to me within a week.

TILL DATE THEY HAVEN'T GOTTEN BACK. It was obvious after about 2 months I wasn't selected but I was extremely disappointed by the lack of professionalism shown by the HR team. There is a lot of pressure and uncertainty in a candidate's mind and they made it the worst possible experience.

    Interview Questions

    • Negotiations with suppliers - How would you conduct a negotiation and what are the steps, once you have the product specs and costs ready? (I had no direct experience with supplier negotiation and hence the problem)   1 Answer

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Philips Lighting in August 2013.

    Interview

Invitation by HR via Linkedln to apply for that entry level position. She was pretty friendly talking to me about company's profile and explain job functions. Got a phone interview one week later with a senior mechanical engineer. However, he turns out to be a little impatient and even not go through my resume clearly and keep throwing bomb to me with " Do you have experience of blah blah blah " which make me feel so bad as new grad always have limited work experience in certain area. I don't want to lie but also I don't want to screw up my interview.
