06/08/15- applied 06/17/15- online assessment/ skills test 06/26/15- phone interview 06/29/15- background check initiated 07/01/15- manager interview 07/08/15- background check complete and job offer accepted Progressive will be the first to tell you their recruitment process is more extensive than that of most companies. Overall I was highly impressed with the process. They really take the time to get a feel for you as an actual PERSON, which is rather unique for such a large corporation. But they want to make sure you're a good fit and have the skills necessary to succeed in the position. As most of the other reviews have mentioned, answers to interview questions should follow the S.T.A.R. format (situation, task, action, result). The best way to prepare for these questions is NOT to have canned responses memorized because you won't know which questions will be asked. Rather, just think back on your work history and be prepared to discuss specific situations within the framework of behavioral situations- ie working in teams, responding to and resolving conflict, coping with unreasonable people, etc. Plan for about an hour long phone interview and at least an hour if you're selected for an in-person interview. My in-person interview was a very positive experience. I met one-on-one with the managing director of the entire claims office. There were the expected STAR questions along with a general 'why Progressive' at the beginning, but as the interview moved forward, it began to feel like more of a conversation. I related quite well to the director and was given an opportunity to ask questions at the conclusion of the interview. The director was extremely thorough in answering all of my questions. The ONLY frustrating thing about the process for me was the fact that Progressive uses HireRight for background screens (at least for certain positions). The process took SEVEN full working days. Typical turnaround time for a bg check is 2-4 days! It was a nerve racking week to say the least, but the recruiter called to touch base with me every few days and was very helpful. Finally the clouds parted and I was ecstatic when I got the call yesterday offering me the job at the top end of the salary range they had provided earlier. I cannot wait to start a long-term career at Progressive!

I applied online – interviewed at Progressive Insurance.

    Interview

I applied for the position online on May 26th. On May 28th I received via email a request to complete a pre-employment assessment they state it will take 45-60 minutes to complete and you can only take it once every 6 months. The assessment is timed and you can see time left but if you need to take a break you can log out and the time stops but you have to complete within 48 hours. You will receive results via email within 2 days, I got mine the next day stating I met the qualifications and will receive a email in the next few days with the next step in the process. June 4th I received a phone interview request link. You schedule your requested time yourself and then you get a reminder. My phone interview was on June 9th and Jeff called right on time. He made the interview very relaxed and as comfortable as can be expected. He went over the company benefits, the position (salary, bonus, schedules ect) and verified my work history off my resume. All the time he would ask if I had any questions and if I did he would answer them. Then the STAR questions and again Jeff put me at ease and before I knew it he was asking if I had any other questions for him which I did and he answered. Then Jeff said the next step would be for him to recommend that they move forward in the process and he would send links for the background check to me and this process will take about 2 days then I will be scheduled for a onsite interview. He offered the name of the company doing the background checks and that was it. I have to say that if it wasn't for Jeff making me feel so comfortable I don't think I would have made it thru the interview I was so nervous and over focused on the STAR questions and answers.

    Interview Questions

    • The first question he asked was about customer focus "tell me about a time you helped a customer who had previously had an unpleasant experience"   Answer Question
    • The second question was "Tell me about a time there was significant change at the company and how you made the change with them. Was this difficult? What did you do to change?"   1 Answer

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Progressive Insurance (Dallas, TX) in July 2015.

    Interview

Apply online, email for online testing, phone interview, on site interview, and then a call with the offer once the background check is complete. Once the phone interview was over, while she was still on the line with me, the recruiter emailed me the permission form for the background check and scheduled my in-person interview. When the in person interview finished, the manager told me I would hear from the recruiter in about a week. I got an offer by email and phone 8 days after the in-person interview.

    Interview Questions

    • What would you change about your current job? Be specific and explain what changes you would make and what the result would be.   1 Answer

    Negotiation

I didn't try to negotiate my salary since this is an entry-level position. Not sure if you can or not. Be sure and go over the offer with your recruiter. Maybe I dropped the ball on negotiating salary?

    Application

I applied online. The process took 7 weeksinterviewed at Progressive Insurance in July 2015.

    Interview

I applied for this position on 06/08 and didn't receive an email until 07/12 that I passed the initial screening and to take an assessment. The assessment took about 45 min to complete. I was stressing really bad over it but it was not bad at all. It asked some basic word problems, to interpret profit/loss graphs, and behavioral questions. I completed the assessment at 8pm and had an email by 7am the next day informing me that I passed. The following day I received an email for me to schedule my phone interview and I received 4 slots to choose from. I chose the first available slot which was 07/21. The recruiter contacted me right on time and the call lasted about 40 minutes. She asked 6-7 STAR questions and basic interview questions like "why progressive?" At the end of the call she told me that I did well and wanted to know if I had time that same day to conduct a face to face interview! I was very excited but had to work later that day so I scheduled my face to face interview for the following week on 07/27. The person I interviewed with was a Claims Manager and he was very friendly and completely put me at ease during the interview. I love how open and upfront Progressive is about their hiring process. There were NO surprises whatsoever! My interview lasted about 40 minutes and later on in the afternoon I got a call from my recruiter offering me the position! Yay, I was so excited and I am still so thrilled that I will soon be joining an amazing organization. Thank you so much Progressive for making this process so seamless and I can not wait to began my new career.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at Progressive Insurance (Colorado Springs, CO) in June 2015.

    Interview

Just like everyone has said, I filled out the application which involved a timed assessment(June 11th.) The next day, I received a congratulatory email stating I passed the online assessment and to look out for an email with further instructions. I got an email only 2 hours later requesting a phone interview be set up! When I first applied around six months ago, I only got an email several days later saying I was not going to move on with the process. Expecting the same results, I was very excited to see I again passed the assessment. Getting a phone interview within only hours was the cherry on top, giving me a boost of confidence. I immediately picked my phone interview time through the link in the sent email to ensure the closest available time.(June 17th) I spent the next 4-5 days preparing for the interview by taking heavy notes answering generic behavioral questions and finding out as much as I could about Progressive, including their values and any recent news. While I was nervous, the preparation helped keep my head in-line. My recruiter called only two minutes late and was very thorough in explanation of the job and important aspects of the 4 month training program. There were a few behavioral type questions with a lot of focus on previous experience and before I knew it, our call was over! Although the interview lasted a little over 45 minutes, I felt not a second was wasted and liked learning more about the company and job I was applying for. The only thing that caused concern was talk of the background check. I was told that simply not putting the right date on previous employment could cost me the position! I guess its my own fault for not keeping track of every aspect of my work history. Anyway, she ended our interview with expectations of hearing about my next steps by the 19th. Luckily I did not have to wait long. The next day (June 18th) I received an email inviting me to do the background check! While I was very excited about moving along in the process, my stomach tied in knots as I thought about how serious I had to research and make sure I answered everything as accurately as I could. I was more nervous about completing the check than I am about the 2 face-to-face interviews I'm expecting next. I am hoping the rest of the process goes just as smooth and quickly, mainly the HireRight background check. Looking forward to more good news, I will post about the F2Fs once completed :)

    Interview

After the application you will need to take the assessment If you pass the assessment you will be contacted by email to inform you and then be scheduled for a phone interview. If that goes well you will then be scheduled for a face to face interview (I was scheduled for one right after the phone interview) to take place in the office. This interview will take approximately 2 hours. I was told when they were to discuss the candidates, and when I should expect to here from the original recruiter (phone interviewer) with the outcome. I was told by the following week but it was actually 2 days later when I was contacted.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 daysinterviewed at Progressive Insurance (Riverview, FL) in June 2015.

    Interview

I applied at the Progressive website for the sales rep position. Having many years of experience in a customer service and sales call center, i was confident my skills would be a perfect fit for the job. Within a few days after submitting my application, I received an email to complete a screening test. After completing the test, I received an email that i would be considered for the job and to setup a phone interview date to discuss my qualifications. The HR lady who conducted the interview was was very pleasant to speak to. I was excited for a chance to interview considering I have read that Progressive is wonderful company to work with and it provides many opportunities for growth. Before the interview went any further, she stated the starting pay range would be between $14 and $15.75 an hour. This was disappointing considering the job posting for the position stated between $16 and $17 an hour. Not wanting to waste the interviewer's time I politely withdrew my application. I asked if withdrawing my application would appear negatively should I apply for other positions with higher pay, she replied not at all. Progressive is truly a great company to start a career with, not many companies go to great lengths to find candidates that are a perfect fit for their organization. My only feedback to the company is to be more transparent regarding posted starting pay. If another position become available with higher pay, I hope I am considered for a chance to interview again. Good luck to everyone who applies!

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Progressive Insurance (Austin, TX) in June 2015.

    Interview

After submitting your information online for the position if you are selected here is what happens next: -An email will be sent out requesting you take an online assessment test which lasts around 45-1hr but you are allotted 2hrs to complete the test. Questions are comprised of hypothetical what would you do situations, problem solving and reading statistics/graphs. Once you have taken the assessment, the email confirmation states that it takes 48hrs to receive results, but for myself it took 2 hrs. -Once you pass the online assessment you will be asked to specify when you'd like to be contacted by a recruiter for a phone interview. Make sure that when you are choosing a time for a phone interview that you know which time zone the recruiter is calling from. -When the recruiter calls for a phone interview, the interview normally lasts from 30-45mins. For myself it was half an hour clarifying employment dates, and I was asked only 3 STAR formatted questions. -After you have been approved for a face-to-face interview, that interview itself lasts about 2 1/2 to 3hrs. You have a first round interview with one supervisor who asks about 8-10 STAR questions, 30mins of shadowing calls, and the last interview with a different supervisor answering some or different 8-10 STAR questions. -If after 1-3 days of evaluating and checking your references, when the recruiter calls to offer you a position, you will also be able to negotiate pay. All-in-all the process was about less than two weeks from applying to being hired.
