Interview and hiring process was extremely quick, as I'm sure the recruiter was ready to get his bonus. My recruiter was a very nice guy, but EXTREMELY dishonest in telling me what I could expect to earn.
Applied online after a job in media fell through after a management change up and was called that same day for an interview. The second interview was in person with the Regional Sales Manager where he basically just talked to me (at me) for an hour. I barely got a word in. Mainly he wanted to see how many accounts you could bring in through personal connections. And he loved the sound of his voice, so he basically just took charge of the conversation. I had an interview with the North East Director of sales over the phone the next day and was hired the next. In all, it took less than a week for everything to happen.
Interviews like this happen often in the regional offices because they are constantly firing people after only a few months or people are leaving on their own. There's an insane amount of employee turnover because it's really not all its cracked up to be.
Interview Question – They ask you if you understand the products. So do a lot of research if you want the job, and be ready to talk about any media sales experience you have. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – The negotiation phase wasn't very much. They asked me what I wanted in a salary and I told them, and they obliged. I might have been able to push for more, but to be honest, it was my first job in sales (and last) and I didn't have much presence to make demands.
No Offer – Interviewed in Philadelphia, PA Jan 2013 – Reviewed Feb 18, 2013
Interview Details – Although I applied for a different position, I was contacted by HR because they liked my skills for the IMC position. I emailed HR back to set up an interview but didn't hear back from HR until 2 weeks later. After sending my schedule information again to set up a phone interview, HR never got back to me, which I found odd considering they contacted me because they were interested. Unprofessional and disorganized.

Very unprofessional and dishonest recruiting. Why work for anyone with zero integrity and no follow through.
I was contacted by a recruiter shortly after I submitted my resume for a phone interview, and quickly moved into a one on one interview with the RSM which went "very well" and it was suggested to take the next steps.
The recruiter stated if it indeed went well that I would have a short second interview which we tried to coordinate, in order to get me to training on TX. We exchanged emails about dates and she stated we definitely will have you in first of next week.
I never heard another word from the recruiter or the hiring manager, after several attempts to follow up via phone/email.
I actually had another offer from another company that I stalled on committing to, until I had the second interview, and waited while missing both opportunities.
ZERO integrity.
Interview Question – Why Reachlocal? Answer Question
No Offer – Interviewed in Portland, OR Jul 2010 – Reviewed Sep 3, 2010
Interview Details – Really impressed with the Recruiter, that I dealt with. He is a recruiter hired exclusively by Reach Local. Telephone interview, application, then you filled out a word document addressing questions, such as areas you think you need improvement in, as a Sales Professional. If you get past this screen, you will be interviewed by local manager...if you get past this step...you will be phone interviewed by Vice President...from there...you will either be contacted back with a form letter of rejection...or a phone call , telling you to come in and review a formal offer.
Interview Question – How would you go about adding new Business as a newly hired IMC? Internet Marketing Consultant? Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Reviewed Nov 14, 2012
Interview Details – Driven by the recruitment team out of Texas. Once the preliminary discussions are made then on to a local manager(s) for interviews. Mine was a little more back-and-forth. Started with a qualifying background recruiter, second round with a more senior person, local interviews then back to senior recruiter and later her boss to negotiate a higher first year base.
Interview Question – Very straightforward. Met with two managers locally. Open discussion. Not structured and not sure the interviewing process is necessarily consistent from interview to interview. No "trick" questions and no prompting questions that I recall that tried to solicit anything more. View Answer

The basic comp plan is outlined and varies by market for the base salary based on local cost of living/competitiveness (so Manhattan vs. Kansas City) but pretty much was $36K or $42K. Also influenced by previous year earnings so you could scale up a first year guarantee based on proven higher earnings the year before. I came in at $48K but one person was at $60K but it dropped for both of us to standard $42K after one year. So this adds the extra burden after a year--even if tracking steady growth--to make up the lost income from the higher first year guarantee.
The only way to make money of any significance is to build a book of business that nets out billings of $50K revenue or greater every month. This puts you in the base + 10% of earnings category.
With an average client billing of about $1800 per month and the amount of churn involved you really have to score some solid mid-size or larger clients to balance out smaller revenue clients. Figure you need to work to 25 to 40 clients under management in the net so that means even more sales to account for churn.
