Software Engineer Intern Interview

Software Engineer Intern

Interviewed at RetailMeNot

Interview Details – First interviewed on campus, and was asked some easy problems about OO, and a simple problem about detecting duplicate items in an array.
Invited to Austin to get the on-site interview. I was not prepared well so I didn't perform well in the process. But the problems are not that tough. If you have some basic ideas on linked list, hashmap, tree, etc, I think you can handle that. Also, they focus on web development so they might prefer people who knows python and php.

Interview Question – Some problems on my resume but I was not prepared.   Answer Question

Intern

Interviewed at RetailMeNot

Interview Details – It was a phone interview after I met an engineer at a fair on campus. The question had to do with sorting through a array of deals to determine the most commonly used words.

Interview Question – As noted above in the process description.   Answer Question

Very Easy Interview

Partner Manager Interview

Partner Manager

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot.

Interview Details – Process took several weeks. Phone interviews and on-site interview with Partner Management team from VP, Account Director, Partner Manager and Coordinator. You will have multiple individual interviews over several hours and then the team comes back together in a round table format to determine any next steps.

I'm not going to share any competitive detail about the company, team structure changes or salary except that if you want this job? ....Your resume is secondary. Lots of people can do the job, it's not hard. Don't spend all your time researching and educating yourself on the company, industry and role. Your passion for affiliate marketing is primary and you absolutely have to demonstrate that it excites you. ....and they have to like you and believe you!

Interview Question – There are absolutely no difficult questions.   View Answer

Account Director Interview

Account Director
Austin, TX

I applied online and the process took 2 days - interviewed at RetailMeNot.

Interview Details – Only got as far as a screening call from the HR person. She was fairly abrupt and not super friendly. They were looking for someone with very specific management experience (having managed a team of 8+) and she ended the interview immediately once realizing I didn't hit the 8 number. I appreciate being clear on the need for the role, but I also think from a relationship standpoint, and for future hiring, they'd want to learn about their candidates and maintain a positive experience.

Interview Question – There weren't really any difficult questions at this phase of the process.   Answer Question

Client Services Department Interview

Client Services Department
Austin, TX

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot.

Interview Details – The interviews themselves were not too challenging. The communication from the hiring managers, however, was very terrible. There was an extreme lack of communication early on and throughout the process. Hiring Managers (or whatever the job title) should be very responsible regarding feedback and next steps. At RetailMeNot though, they don't seem to be doing there job very well. I ultimately gave up on the interviewing process because of the extreme lack of professionalism and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone in my network.

Interview Question – Nothing specific or overly challenging.   Answer Question

Partner Management Coordinator Interview

Partner Management Coordinator

I applied through other source and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot in September 2011.

Interview Details – I applied for the Partner Management Coordinator position. I was asked a lot of typical questions until she asked why I left a prior position so soon. I explained it simply was not a good fit and I decided to move on. I could tell she did not like that answer even though in reviewing her background she has done some quality job hopping. She also for whatever reason asked me if I knew Objective C and a bunch of other skills that my resume clearly did not reflect as I'm sure she was desperate to find people with those skills. Clueless HR/recruiter in my opinion.

Technology Manager Interview

Technology Manager

I applied through other source and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot in August 2012.

Interview Details – Interview was 6-7 individuals most of which hadn't read my resume or knew why I was there. The juniors emphasized the chaotic environment, insane amount of work and lack of leadership. When they decided they didn't want me, they cut the last couple of interviews with no feedback despite the fact I'd spent all day there. Pretty unprofessional on the whole.

Software Engineering Intern Interview

Software Engineering Intern

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 days - interviewed at RetailMeNot in February 2014.

Interview Details – Started off with a few simple questions, abstract data types etc. Nothing extremely tricky, or things you would necessarily be able to prepare in advance. Standard "do you know your stuff" questions. We moved to a whiteboard afterwards, where there was a function prototype written and the rest of the function to be written. It wasn't a very hard question, totally do-able if you've taken your core CS classes.

Interview Question – I came into the whiteboard coding question totally unprepared. It wasn't a very difficult problem but I wasn't ready for it.   Answer Question

Senior Visual Designer Interview

Senior Visual Designer
Austin, TX

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at RetailMeNot in October 2012.

Interview Details – I was referred to this position by a current employee and old friend. I had a quick sanity-check phoner with Recruiter to cover the basics; start time, salary range, background on company. I was scheduled to come in for an in-person. I spent 4 hours with 5 different people: Senior Recruiter, VP of Product, UX Designer, Visual Designer, UI Developer. I walked through my work and was encouraged by the discussion of company vision and expectations of day-to-day work. The VP of Product asked more conceptual questions like "What makes a great designer" and "What kind of problems do you like solving." I didn't have a lot of time to discuss work, but I felt very comfortable and the responses were great.

Interview Question – What makes a great designer?   Answer Question
