Trainee Recruitment COnsultant Interview

Trainee Recruitment COnsultant
Chicago, IL

I applied through college or university and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at SThree.

Interview Details – This interview process involved 4 steps.

1. Initial talk with the Talent Scout: This will last about 30 mins. This is to get more detail about the position, how you applied, why you are interested and general questions about what you want in a job.

2.Initial interview with Talent Scout: This interview was to tell you about the position and to find out your motives and interests. This interview was to find out if you are interested in what the company is about and what the position consists of. (1 hour)

3. Interview with 2 Managers: I had my interview via Skype because I was unable to come in to the office. But this interview will more than likely occur in the office. The first manager asked a lot about you, your resume and what makes you right for the position. This interview was intense and it lasted about 1 hour and 30 mins. The second manager interview was a role play and more review of your resume. This interview isn't as much as into detail as the first manager. You will be asked questions about your interests and the company. Then you will be expected to sale something to the manager. This interview lasted about an hour.

4. This is the most intense part. You go into the office for an entire day. You will shadow a manager, you will be expected to call candidates and obtain the information the company wants you to get. After that, you will go to lunch with a member of the team and you can ask ANY questions you want. This is kind of like an interview but a little more informal. After that you get an hour to yourself, either practice on your presentation, get coffee, do homework, anything you want really. After that you make a 10 minute presentation (pretty easy) then a 2 hour interview with the director, the managers you interviewed with and potentially the talent scout. The director asks you questions, a lot of them. Be ready to answer them truthfully, because they do write down things and ask for more details about certain things. BE truthful, be yourself, and you should do good. This process lasted 7 hours.

Interview Question – General interview questions... be ready to be truthful about who you are.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation.

Very Difficult Interview

Trainee Recruitment COnsultant Interview

Trainee Recruitment COnsultant

I applied through an employee referral and interviewed at SThree.

Interview Details – I had a shortened version of their standard (and very lengthy) interview process. I was contacted by an internal recruiter initially, and we set up a time to talk.

1) Phone interview with the internal recruiter. About an hour long.
2) Phone interview with the hiring manager. About an hour long.
3) 10 minute presentation followed by an hour and half face-to-face interview with 3 managers.

Be prepared to ask meaningful questions and to understand how their company truly differs from the rest. The managers asked a lot of tough questions in the final round, but I was still able to laugh and joke around a bit during the process.

The atmosphere in the office was lively. Everyone seemed to be friends, and they were all pretty young.

Interview Question – Compared to what our competitors can offer you, how do you know that you want to work for this company specifically?   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at SThree in March 2012.

Interview Details – The phone interview was very casual, focused truly on whether the job was what I was looking for, questions, my background, etc. Then I went in for the 1:1 interview with the division manager. He was overall pretty nice, but asked some offbeat questions--really tried to test me, so DON'T ramble or say something on a whim. He will scrutinize it. Then we did a role-play where I had to sell him a pen. I got called back for the final interview which consisted of a presentation and a panel (3 people) interview. The presentation is fine as long as you prepare and practice it. However, make sure you know EXACTLY what you are saying because, once again, they are looking to test your confidence and catch you off guard. So mean what you mean when you say it. No "BS"ing. Then another role-play where I had to get someone to join my team. Much easier the second time around. Then they gave me a tour of the office and the interview was over. I thought I had it in the bag. A week later they called and gave the position to someone else.

I applied through other source and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at SThree in February 2012.

Interview Details – Cold called the company and had a really nice initial phone conversation with a representative in NY; seemed like a very professional, but also friendly, environment. Secondary phone interview with a representative in Houston was very detailed and formal, lasted about an hour. I was then emailed a comprehensive interview preparation packet. The in person interview was about an hour and a half. I first spoke with the hiring manager. The conversation was fairly standard, except that he kept looking out the window while talking to me, and seemed impatient when I was asking questions. I then spoke with a member of the team, who was very professional and personable. My main issue was with the follow up phone call, during which I was informed that the hiring manager, "didn't really understand why I wanted to work, so he decided to pass." This struck me as an unnecessarily rude and unprofessional manner of relaying the fact that I wouldn't be offered a position, particularly because it's a staffing agency-- they should be able to handle all aspects of the interview process in a courteous manner.

Trainee Recruitment COnsultant Interview

Trainee Recruitment COnsultant
Bristol, England (UK)

I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at SThree in July 2014.

Interview Details – I sent my CV to an email and was phoned back the next day to have a quick chat with an internal recruiter about my application, my motivations, general chit chat. This was followed up a few days later by a longer telephone interview that lasted over an hour with the same internal recruiter, where I was grilled quite heavily about the company, the brands, why I wanted to work in recruitment, my future career plans, and some competency-based questions. I passed this stage and was invited to a face-to-face interview in the Bristol office, I was told I would be interviewed by two managers, possibly more, and be asked to give a presentation. I was sent a lot of materials for preparation and the internal recruiter seemed genuinely interested in getting me the job. She called me both the day before and about half an hour before the interview to help prepare me for it.

I arrived early for the face-to-face interview, but only one manager was available to interview me, not two as stated over the phone. Unlike the internal recruiter, I found the manager quite arrogant, abrasive, and standoffish. It was clear that he hadn't looked at my CV before the interview and had gone in completely blind, as he was following notes from a sheet of paper. He misinterpreted several key points and ignored several others. At one point he made a rude and unprofessional backhanded compliment that I'm not a "natural salesperson", despite my records as a top salesperson for a FTSE 250 company. At which point I decided that I wouldn't take the job or next round of the interview if I was offered it.

Interview Question – You don't seem like a natural salesperson.   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at SThree in August 2011.

Interview Details – I submitted my application via their official website and got a call after a few days from the recruiter. We had a short interview, after that the recruiter invited me for a personal interview.
There were 2 interviews(in Dutch and in English). In Dutch went well, got asked about my background. Interview in English went terrible. I got asked about my background, why I think I am the perfect match for this job. All in all standard questions, not very difficult. But the recruiter was extremely arrogant in her language and overall attitude, which looked very unprofessional.

Difficult Interview

Trainee Recruitment COnsultant Interview

Trainee Recruitment COnsultant
Singapore (Singapore)

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 4 days - interviewed at SThree.

Interview Details – Very long drawn out process. They invite you and 10 others to an Assessment Day, split you into groups and ask various questions. This is where the first cut happens then it will be a series of one on one interviews with managers and team leads. If you pass this round, they will invite you to spend half a day with the team and do some form of OJT. You will then have lunch with the team and after that you will do a presentation to a manager.

Interview Question – No difficult questions. They are looking to ascertain tangible and intangible qualities in you.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – Not able to negotiate pay as they said it was pretty standard. It's a great place to work if you are first starting out in recruitment as the training and development is fantastic. However, they are extremely kpi driven and with monthly targets, it's an extremely high stress environment. You will get sick of the mind numbing KPIs once you have established your market.

I applied online and the process took 4 days - interviewed at SThree in May 2010.

Interview Details – Had a phone interview, then was booked in for a face to face interview.
Met with country manager first, then another manager for 2nd round, a team leader for 3rd round and then the director for the final round. Was a quick process. Some of the rounds were tougher than the rest so be prepared for the good cop bad cop approach. People here all seem quite corporate, driven and ambitious.
Final round was what clinched the deal for me - an entire work sample day where I learnt more about the role and given a sample of the day to day of this job. Had a nice lunch with the team and found them to be a fun and friendly bunch of people - after a few days was offered the role and of course accepted it!

Interview Questions

Negotiation Details – Competitive basic pay, so did not negotiate further. Plus was told all trainees came in at this rate, and there would be increases upon promotion to consultant and so on.
Went through the commission scheme, which is attractive.
