I applied online – interviewed at Sallie Mae.

    Interview Details

It was a pretty easy process. I had one interview with two supervisors and they just asked basic "what would you do in this scenario" type questions. There were also a lot of questions about past job experiences about dealing with customers and coworkers. Also, they asked why I chose to work at Sallie Mae. I said it was a good company to work for and there was a lot of potential for growth within the company.

I filled out an application online and received an email the next day to schedule an in-person interview. I went to the in-person interview and a few days later I was called for a phone interview. A few days later I was offered the position over the phone. Then they performed a background check and drug test.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at Sallie Mae.

Run by internal recruiters that typically have little knowledge of the actual job functions for which they are hiring, the process can be slow. Once you get to the hiring manager it moves more quickly, but the beginning can be slow. Be sure to tailor your resume to the language in the job posting. It's often the only way the recruiter can link the position with your skills.

I applied online. The process took 8 weeksinterviewed at Sallie Mae in February 2014.

    Interview Details

Applied online. Had a phone screen with HR to assess what I was looking for in my next role and ensure I understood the role's needs. Had a round of in-person interviews with 6 people. Had a follow up phone interview at my request with the hiring manager because we didn't have enough time in person.

    Interview Questions
    • None of the questions were particularly hard. Typical behavioral interviews - "tell me about a time when you <blank>." Most were just conversations to assess fit with the team.   Answer Question

I applied online. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Sallie Mae.

Pretty simple. The first step is a phone interview. They ask you about customer service experience and if you mind saying repetitive things over the phone. A few situational questions, but not too in depth. The next interview is in person. There will give you a tour (along with a group of others who came to interview) of the facility, then you will meet with a supervisor for your second interview. Again, your standard customer service questions. How do you deal with a difficult customer? Have you ever gone above and beyond for a customer? Do you have experience dealing with personal and secure information? Not too difficult. The third interview isn't really an interview. Just the Director asking about yourself and looking at your resume and he tells you that you have the job.

No negotiation. It's $13.22/hour, but you can get a monthly bonus and it is pretty easy to get.

    Collector I Interview

    Interview Details

The interview was pretty simple and straightforward, typical behavioral questions as well as some more straightforward ones. A lot of the focus is put on being able to trust you with sensitive information since you are exposed to quite a bit of it over the course of a given day.

    Interview Questions
    • None of the questions were really that difficult. Maybe something about where you see yourself in the company after 5 years because most people don't even know what the path up from a collector is at that point in the interview process.   Answer Question
