Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Samsung Engineering (Seoul (South Korea)) in July 2011.

Interview

The HR recruiting representative was very fast at emailing me back after I applied online, He was in contact with me and wanted to know the specifics about why I was moving from the US to South Korea. I explained my situation to him and he said he would pass my resume to other hiring managers. He got back to me one week later saying they wanted to interview me. I interviewed with the HR recruiter, hiring manager, and manager in Seoul once I relocated to Korea about 3 weeks later. All 3 people were in the room sitting across from me. Most of the questions were technical and cultural related. The interview lasted exactly one hour. It was not a difficult interview but the English spoken was tough to understand at times. I wore a conservative navy blue suit which might help with the culture and perception in an interview in Korea.

Interview Questions

  • What are your feeling towards overtime work?   1 Answer

Negotiation

I recieved an offer 5 days after my interview. It was a bit low in my opinion and I negotiated it up. The offer was fair based on what I learned about Korean salaries. I knew what to expect and the range it would fall into.
