Sears Assistant Store Manager Brand Central Interview

I applied online. The process took 2+ weeksinterviewed at Sears in October 2014.

    Interview Details

Interview process was professional, well executed and comprehensive. Several online interviews based on job requirements and character. Then a face-to-face interview with the store manager and district manager. We then went into negotiations for salary and benefits. Unfortunately Sears does not pay for health coverage and they offer a generic health plan. I found a better plan using the online marketplace. They were kind enough to give me a week to reply to the offer. Overall they were very accommodating.

Two pre-hire assessments. They ask you mostly about your personality. *on the weekends I prefer to...a) party, b) read books c) watch television d) go to the club
1st interview- Store manager (followed recent college graduate interview guidelines and questionnaire
2nd interview- Human resources (ask more questions mostly about location, biggest weakness, previous employment experiences)
3rd interview- General Manager (overview of what they are looking for in terms of who should fill the position, leaves it open to questioning)

    Interview Questions
    • The most difficult thing was to come up with specific examples from previous employment or college classes. This was just my personal experience because I worked two full time jobs and went to school full time all at once.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
Final call was to state salary. There was no negotiating anything in terms of pay or vacation. It was a take it or leave it offer.

I applied online. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at Sears.

Interview consisted of two interviews. First was a face to face interview with the Store Manager; the second was an hour long phone interview with the District Manager. Interviews felt very good cop/bad cop. First one built me up, pumped me up and brought out the confidence. Second one felt like the inquisition where everything felt like the wrong thing to say.

I accepted the first offer that was given. I didn't want to try my hand at negotiating given that when we discussed pay initially, I had thrown out a number that was 10% higher than what I was looking for, and they immediatly matched it. Think about how much you are looking for, what you are worth, and tack on another 10%.

I applied in-person. The process took a dayinterviewed at Sears.

    Interview Details

I was currently a department manager and I was approached by the store manager of the store in which the assistant position was open. I had worked with him for several years and he had recently been promoted to store manager. He described the assistant store manager position requirements and asked if I would be interested in applying. I applied for the position and interviewed with the district manager. I'd known the district manager for about 10 years and had worked with him on and off as well. The interview process lasted a little over an hour. I was offered and accepted the position.

Filled out the application on line. 2 days later got a 45 minute assessment that had to be filled out. 1 week later I received an email confirmation that they were interested in me. 1 week later I received a call from the Store Manager for an interview. 2 weeks later I had a phone interview with the District Manger. He presented an alternative option to the original position that I interviewed for. Another Store Manager called to offer me the job and salary. I turned it down. I heard back from the District Manager several times before I accepted the job. He did get closer to what I was wanting as my salary requirement. I should have stayed with my previous job because promises were made that never came close to what was agreed upon in taking the job.
