I applied through a staffing agency and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Shutterfly in October 2013.

Interview Details – Hiring process was very thorough. I went through three different interviews - phone, initial, then follow up. I was very impressed with the interviewer.

Interview Question – There were specific questions about the software they use (Adobe) that, while not difficult, would definitely weed out any one who wasn't familiar with the programs.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation. They offered a position at a certain level of pay, and I could either accept or decline it.

Production Designer Interview

Production Designer
Sunnyvale, CA

I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Shutterfly.

Interview Details – I applied online and got a phone call for a one on one interview within a couple days. I was interviewed by two people who took turns asking questions. Some of the questions that were asked were:

1. Tell me about yourself.
2. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

There were other questions asked, but I can't recall what they were as this was several years ago. After the interview, I showed my portfolio and was asked to do a skills test to identify errors on their cards.

Interview Question – There weren't any questions that were too difficult to answer.   Answer Question

Client Services Manager Interview

Client Services Manager

I applied online and interviewed at Shutterfly.

Interview Details – I submitted a resume and application through LinkedIn, then was contacted via email within a matter of days by a talent specialist. First, there was a pretty standard phone interview conducted by an HR person, then an in-person group interview with the hiring manager and team members was arranged via email.

Interview Question – Questions were mostly centered around previous experience and the types of clients and projects I managed. None of the questions were extraordinarily difficult or unexpected.   Answer Question

I applied online and interviewed at Shutterfly.

Interview Details – It's a beautiful facility! First, I interviewed with a team leader- we talked about the job in general and she asked a few questions. These questions pertained to handling customer service situations, life questions and scheduling questions. Next, I interviewed with a manager- the questions were the same. Great process!

Architect/Database Administrator

Interviewed at Shutterfly

Interview Details – quite an unorganized interview, HR never kept a track of email communication, had to reconfirm the interview multiple times and in spite of the back and forth emails the architect who was supposed to interview never showed up. the manager who was supposed to interview was late, had a last minute interview by a manager who was not scheduled to interview.

Senior Manager Interview

Senior Manager
Redwood City, CA

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Shutterfly in July 2013.

Interview Details – Very transparent. From the first call from a Junior Recruiter on, they laid out when they would call, with whom and how it would work. Three phone interviews - junior recruiter, senior recruiter, hiring manager, then approximately 3 hours of face-to-face 30 minute interviews with team members. Everyone was extremely nice and no difficult questions.

Interview Question – Nothing unexpected. Asked how I would handle road-blocks escalated by assistants?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – It is a contract position, so the rate was stated up front. The only negotiation I did was around start date.

Director - Marketing Interview

Director - Marketing
Redwood City, CA

I applied online and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Shutterfly in May 2013.

Interview Details – Had an initial interview over the phone. Went to onsite interviews at Redwood Shores facility and met with 7 total (Directors to VP level), 2 in HR. The interviews overall were very predictable and everyone at Shutterfly was professional and treated me well. Their HQ facility is very nice. There were a two people that didn't seem too excited about Shutterfly long term and the turnover seemed a little high (people on jobs short amounts of time, industry experience low, etc).

Interview Question – What would you do your first week on the job?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – Shutterfly has virtually no women in executive level and board positions. A Shutterfly manager confided that their executive management is dominated by "white men" and the advancement to those levels was virtually impossible unless you were part of that group. Doesn't seem like a good company for a woman who is trying to advance their career, particularly odd since the product's target market is women. I ended up accepting a job for a larger tech company with executive management comprised of 30% women and a reputation for promoting women executives and work-life balance. Shutterfly has great products, I am sad it didn't work out but have to look at long term.
