I applied through college or university – interviewed at Société Générale.

    Interview Details

I was selected to interview after submitting my resume through a school-sponsored database. I attended their super day over the phone because I couldn't fly out at the time (Snowpocalypse '14). I only had two interviews that lasted about 20 minutes each. The first was more of a judge of fit (why do I want to work here, what do I think I'd be doing for them, etc.) and the second picked at my qualifications to be a good legal intern (how do I think I'm qualified for this position). They got back to me in about a week with their decision.

I applied online. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Société Générale in September 2014.

    Interview Details

At all levels SG is an unprofessional company. The recruiter was most reprehensible, demonstrating pure contempt towards organization and potential candidates. Each American Sourcing and HR Manager that I met expressed blatant disdain for the French parent arm. I received verbal and email confirmation that the package offer would be delivered within xx hours/days. All of this was than retracted and next the recruiter became abusive when I requested clarification. This is a sorry excuse for a business - I have never met such a collective group of miserable people.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Société Générale in December 2013.

    Interview Details

A recruiting firm / head hunter reached out to me with three potential positions that they wanted me to try out for with Soc Gen. Commodities, Equity Derivatives, and ABS.

The whole process took two phone calls before receiving an offer from the bank.

The first phone call was with a direct manager, he asked simple questions about what I currently do, what environments I work in, and then a couple things about derivatives.

The second phone call was a lot more personal / cultural. He briefly asked what it was that I worked on, some programming knowledge as well as certain opinions on programming environments, and derivatives knowledge, then we went back and forth discussing the 'mission' of the group. Bottom line, I was able to connect what I was working on presently to what they would have me working on.

    Interview Questions
    • Difficult: What are the variables in the black scholes formula?
Unexpected: How will you leave your current position?

Then I had two phones interviews with the senior traders. Basic finance questions about various financial derivatives ( options, credit, rates, bonds ...), B&S model and Greeks, getting more difficult and technicals but a good sign that you know your basics.
