Implement Project Manager I at Sprint Nextel

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Temple, TX Oct 2008 – Reviewed Mar 22, 2009

Interview Details – I initially applied with this company online several years ago. I went online to research interview questions, and I was positive I had this in the bag. There were two people conducting the interview process. They were both easy going and definitely made me feel more comfortable. However, I was not at all prepared for the behavioral questions they started in with. I had not read anything about these types of questions online, and I was completely unprepared. I normally do not do well with thinking up answers when I am under pressure. There was one question I could not even come up with an answer for. I would strongly suggest researching behavioral type interview questions before going into any interview. If you know someone within the company, you could also ask them for advice and tips. Once you have a basic idea of what behavioral questions are like, the best thing to do is think up at least 5 - 6 situations that would work with several of the questions. For example, using one work-related situation from your previous job (or any previous experience that might relate to the question, although something work-related would be more appropriate), you can easily have prepared answers to several of the behavioral questions. An example of a behavioral question, without being too specific, would be, "When were you ever in a 'such & such' situation, and how did you handle it?" Or, "Explain in detail a time when you were working multiple issues but were still able to handle it and keep your cool." These are not actual questions but just a vague idea of what they can be like. If you already have several past situations in mind, it will be much easier to answer these questions as opposed to trying to think something up on the spot. Also, make sure to dress appropriately for your interview. When I initially entered the building for the first time to inquire about available positions, I noticed that most of the employees were dressed in jeans and very casual clothing. Although this was allowed at the time, it doesn't mean that you want to be casual for your interview. First impressions are extremely important, and you will want to make a good one. Have confidence in yourself! The employers/interviewers will notice this! Make eye contact with them while you are speaking. Know that you can ask for a moment to think if you come across a particularly difficult interview question. This will not count against you. In fact, some interviewers like to see this, as they know you are taking your time to answer and really thinking things through. Make sure that you are familiar with the company and their products and/or job functions. Read up on this before going into your interview. You will most likely be asked a question pertaining to this type of information; and even if you're not, it would be good knowledge to bring up at some point during the interview. Make sure to embellish on your skills. Most importantly - Smile!

Since my initial interview with this company, I have had several others when moving to different departments within the company. I can honestly say that I aced all of the interviews that followed the first, because I was much more familiar with the process. I studied for each one beforehand. I made a list of situations, experienced at both this and my previous jobs, to use for the behavioral questions. It is good to be prepared for a group interview, in case you have one. It can be somewhat unnerving to walk into a room and see 5 people sitting at a table in front of you. Again, be confident. You want to show them that you have faith in yourself and your abilities. Make sure to make eye contact with every person in the room, especially while you are speaking to them. Don't forget to smile and always be well prepared for an interview.

Interview Questions

  • Have you ever had difficulty with a supervisor or instructor? How did you resolve the conflict?   View Answer
  • Tell me what you know about our company   View Answer

Negotiation Details – I did not negotiate, because I was unaware at the time I could do so. I would highly recommend anyone going into a salary position to try and up the pay a little. Especially if you're moving from one position in the company to another... be sure to list all of your skills. Even if they are not part of your previous job description. If it's something you've done and will contribute in some way to your new position, bring it up.

Implementation Project Manager at Sprint Nextel

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Mar 2010 – Reviewed Apr 25, 2011

Interview Details – HIring process is usually three fold.

1. Phone interview. Recruiter will go over the usual standard questions. Ask if you're a criminal. Explain your resume.

2. I had another phone interview but with manager. He asked some STAR questions . What I would do in certain situations. Recall a time where you had a serious challenge you faced.. etc.,

3. Face to Face interview. I think in this process, they just want to feel you out some more. I dressed for the occasion. Actually had lunch with my potential manager. Asked me questions like what I did for fun.

Interview Question – Recall a certain situation in your past career. How did you resolve that situation.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Negotiations.. there wasn't any. They simply offered and let me know that they didnt wiggle much. What they offered was fairly good at the time.
