International Graduate Program - Financial Markets Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
New York, NY

I applied through college or university and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at Standard Chartered Bank in January 2013.

Interview Details – I heard about the program through on campus recruiting, where SC came to make a presentation about the various divisions in their graduate program. I was directed to apply through the website.

The first step of the application was to complete the Global Abstract Aptitude Test within 3 days of receiving the invitation. The test was a standard logic assessment test. The second test I was invited for was the Numerical Analysis Aptitude Test, which was a standard math competency based test which some finance concepts. The final test was the Wave Focus Styles online questionnaire which was more of an assessment of your working style and personality.

I was called in for a phone interview within a week of finalizing my application. The phone interview lasted over an hour and was centered mostly around 3 of my prior experiences. The interviewer asked 3 "tell me about a time" questions, which she later asked me to elaborate on. The questions really probed into each of my answers in order to extract all the details for the interviewer. The interview was not technical at all. I heard back from them the next day.

Interview Question – None of the questions were too unexpected. However interviewer went into extreme depth with each question regarding a particular experience or situation.

Tell me about a time when you worked in a team and had to resolve differences in opinions. The experience I mentioned was over a year ago and I did not remember it quite as detailed as I would like. And so it was difficult to answer all the interviewer's followup questions precisely.

Compliance Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
New York, NY

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Standard Chartered Bank in February 2010.

Interview Details – I was contacted by a recruiting firm by telephone. I interviewed with the hiring manager in the compliance group who seemed to think my background and skills fit her needs. I returned a couple weeks later to meet with three other members of compliance. I was asked point blank by the group head what my current base and bonus was, which I thought was a bit disconcerting. Ultimately, their budget for the position was too low for my requirements, which was communicated to me via the recruiting firm.

Standard Chartered Group & Technology Operation MT Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied online and the process took 6 months - interviewed at Standard Chartered Bank.

Interview Details – I applied online through their website on sept 2013 and finished the online assessments. I was hired shortly after by another company so I was not able to complete all the assessments. On late February 2014, I received a call from them asking if I would want to continue pursuing the position and they sent me the last assessment (work habits) to finish. Once I had finished this, I simply waited for a week and got a call to schedule my phone interview.

The phone interview lasted around 45 minutes and involved questions regarding my previous work experience such as: what is the most difficult situation that you've come across? Name one example of a time when you had a disagreement with a coworker who was not and is not currently your friend.

After that I waited another week and got an invite for the final stage of the recruitment process. I'm currently waiting for the final day of recruitment.

Interview Question – Name one instance where you had to work with someone you did not necessarily get alone with. How did you handle the situation?   Answer Question

I applied through other source and the process took 2 months - interviewed at Standard Chartered Bank in February 2014.

Interview Details – Interview process is listed in details in their website. The first step is an online aptitude test. Don't lie in personality test, because they will know for sure in the next steps

The second round is an interview with HR. Very detailed. Know your resume well. No surprising questions, but they asked very tiny details of the experience, so be prepared! After 15 mins of introduction, there are only 3 main questions, but again, they ask every details, even some that I thought weren't relevant. I think they wanted to make sure I didn't make up the story. Some notes for this step: don't be nervous. I screwed one question because I already used my good example in the previous question, but I still got through the next round. I think the importance is to show them you have the ability to fit in, even when you have limited experience.

Had to wait for almost 3 weeks to get an invitation for the next round. The first step is an online case study. Nothing technical so don't spend hours to learn some stuff like I did :(. Second step is a Business Discussion about their annual reports, and last step is a presentation.

Interview Question – No surprising/technical question so far.   View Answer

I applied online and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Standard Chartered Bank in December 2013.

Interview Details – - Did the phone interview and was then invited to the next round which consists of 3 activities. The invitation to the final round took 2 months to come so fairly long process.
- first activity for the final round is an online case study which lasts 75 minutes and is pretty straight forward

* Currently waiting for the Business Discussion Board Exercise. I was told that the case study will be graded and they will get in touch to set up a good time to speak. No response as yet. (1 week)

Interview Question – - So far everything was pretty straight forward but for the Business Discussion exercise i was sent a Final Report for 2013 half year. Recommended to read the first 9 pages in order to prepare but document looked pretty touch.   View Answer
