Applied at a few local stores and a different store manager called to set an interview. Was farther than I wanted to travel for work but accepted anyways. Interview was a lot of "tell me when" questions, so be prepared to pull situations from your past work experience. Hiring can take a while so don't expect to start training within the first few days, give it at least a week.

    Interview Questions
    • All of the questions were difficult because unless you can really recall the exact situation you sound like your repeating yourself with every answer.   Answer Question

I submitted my application online, which is how all applications have to be submitted, then I stopped by the store to talk to the manager. I told him that I already submitted my application and he interviewed me on the spot. Unfortunately, as a senior in high school who will be leaving the area come sunmer time, I did not get the job because they wanted someone who will be around at least 2 years

One initial interview that will be held in the store lobby, if you have ADD, do your best to focus. Should always call and follow up, sometimes managers can be flocked with applications and or busy with other stuff. Normal interview process, simple questions, probably only lasts about 30 to 45 minutes.

When you first get into the store and tell the barista you're looking for the manager, they offer you a drink. So, I got a coffee and the barista asked me to sit and wait because the store was really busy at that moment. I sat and waited for probably half an hour. The manager called me into the backroom/stockroom/her office? for the interview. She asked basic questions like What is your experience with customer service? Have you ever had a customer who was dissatisfied and what did you do about it? She was reading off a sheet the entire time so I guess they were pre-made questions. The manager was super friendly and the interview was really laid back.

My interviewer was very nice. I was called almost immediately after submitting an application and brought in for an interview right away. Google "how to interview with Starbucks" and look for videos and articles about potential questions. The interviewer wants to make sure you know how to work under pressure, do everything possible to make a customer happy, and how to problem-solve if something goes wrong. I was familiar with the menu before going in, but a lot of new partners who came in after me were not.

If you are not familiar with Starbucks visit a location (even if it is not the one you applying to work at) to check out the menu and maybe treat yourself to a drink so you are familiar with the product. You can also look at the menu online. Nobody will quiz on the menu during an interview, but you can mention menu items in your answers to sound more informed for example the interviewer might ask:
Q "How would you help a customer who has never been to Starbucks select a drink?"
A "If a new customer came in I would ask him/her do you like really sweet drinks? If 'yes' then I would suggest a white mocha, if 'no' then I would suggest a plain cappuccino."

    Interview Questions
    • Be prepared to talk about a time you helped rectify a mistake. You may get a question like: "When did you make a mistake and how did you fix it?" You can always pause, and if you genuinely don't know how to answer a question you can ask to come back to the question.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
No negotiation. They just said "our base pay for new baristas is $9 plus tips" the tips were not as nice as the shift manager advertised. FYI if your fellow partners don't put the tips in the safe frequently, they WILL get stollen if you work in a busy location.

I put an application in online. They called me back a few days later and set up an interview. Right after I finished the first interview they set up a second one for the next day. It went by pretty fast. They're really relaxed and you sit around drinking coffee and talking. Every time you go in for an interview you get a free cup.

    • They ask about some of your flaws and how you're working on fixing them. Just be honest about it and you'll be fine.   Answer Question

I applied online. The process took a weekinterviewed at Starbucks in October 2014.

Okay so basically I walked into the Starbucks and spoke to the manager and she told me that they were a bit busy at the moment and asked me what I wanted to drink while I waited. I took the drink (I have no idea if that hurts or helps your interview) and sat down. After about 15-20 minutes later she came back out and sat down and introduced herself and spoke about the job. She then asked me one question and it was “tell me about yourself.” I spoke about all my volunteer experience I have because this is my first job and then she asked me if I was going to college and if that would interfere with my availability and if I had good transportation and then she told me she’d have to do a background check and that she’d call me on Tuesday or Wednesday to see when I could start training and it was basically over.
