    Corporate Auditor Interview

I applied online - interviewed at Stewart's Shops in November 2012.

    Interview Details

I was called for a corporate auditor interview, had a great interview. I was informed that I would be getting a second interview within two weeks. I was NOT informed that there was no corporate auditor position open at that time! At the second interview, I was surprised and a little pissed off when they told me they had a part time "partner" job available, at minimum wage!

I applied online. The process took a day - interviewed at Stewart's Shops in November 2011.

    Interview Details

I had my first interview today. It was with the district manager at one of the local shops. It went well. It was a very personal interview, almost like having a conversation. He asked questions like: "Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Why Stewart's? and about my prior work experience. He told me that they will contact me for a second interview in 7-10 days, if they decide to. He also went over my application which had a variety of questions on it. Overall, I felt very comfortable and thought it went well.

The process took 2 days - interviewed at Stewart's Shops in October 2011.

Informal interview process. Stress interview structure to bargain cheaply. Seek to hire people into "trial" positions to establish whether they "fit" into the organizations unusual "culture." Friendly at first but does not last. Candid and abrasive with promises of good intent for employee growth in development, which later on equates to nothing more than micromanagement and mistreatment.

    Shop Partner Interview

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Stewart's Shops in July 2011.

    Interview Details

Initial communications were shaky. I applied at the corporate plant twice and was declined for even an interview. I then responded to an online ad for employment at a shop and was contacted within a few days. Scheduling a time to meet with this particular manager was difficult and took two weeks to find a time suitable for the two of us. I then had two interviews, the first which was merely management bragging about the corporations benefits. The second was a more formal interview with a more experienced manager in which the company attempted to direct me to take a part time position instead of the full time one I was told was open. I was offered and accepted a full time position with the company.

    Interview Questions
    • Stewart's requires you to answer math questions on your application. This isn't difficult but annoying because they use a POS system that is Windows based and can be operated by a monkey!   View Answer
    Negotiation Details
The negotiation phase isn't really negotiations. The company tells you what they're offering you and either you want it or you walk away. Stewart's has a tendency to pay a lower hourly wage because they feel their benefits compensate for that.

    Stewarts Partner Interview

I applied in-person. The process took a day - interviewed at Stewart's Shops in May 2010.

    Interview Details

I had forgotten I applied to Stewarts, to be honest. I had turned it in, in person, and no reply came for weeks. Then, out of the blue, I get a call asking if I can come in for an interview.

It was a bit awkward, but casual. I was seated at one of the booths for the interview and he went down the resume I filled out and asked questions related to how I would deal with difficult customers, whether I smoked, how my classes would effect my availability, and whether I thought I could push their many promos to the customers.

The rest was mostly being told how things were done in the store. I think the decision was already made by then, because I was introduced briefly to one of the people behind the counter and told that a quick background check/drug testing would be needed. It all went very fast- at the end of the first interview, I was told to go to another store for a second interview within two hours.

I went to the orientation meeting within a week, they gave the rundown of all the rules about IDing for alcohol/cigs/etc, and I started working within two weeks.

I was asked about the days I had class because it said on my resume I was in college. He asked what I expected to make and let me know the typical starting rate was about $7-7.25/hr with opportunity for growth.

I applied in-person. The process took 5 days - interviewed at Stewart's Shops in August 2009.

    Interview Details

I was called three weeks after I submitted my application to the district manager via fax. I was set up for an interview for a few days later. I went, had it rescheduled and then went in the next day. I was interviewed by a district level employee, and was offered a a second interview. I interviewed with the store manager two days after. It was a very personality-centric interview, with a free form style. There were some guiding questions, but it went more as a conversation than anything.
