    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Sysco (Jacksonville, FL).

    Interview

Started with a brief phone interview where the person informed me of the overall aspects of the position and if I would be ok making only $xxxxxx as a base salary. Basically, she was saying that if you get hired, you may not immediately be earning commission. Also, no mileage reimbursement. Sounded iffy but I was eager about the weekday hours. Next, I was invited to an in-person interview that was supposed to last 1 hour with one person. Instead, it turned into a 3-stage process that lasted 4 hours. Slightly uncomfortable as other candidates were sitting in the same room with me in between interviews. The guys I interviewed with were ok. One sleazeball from New York who was rather full of himself. I ended up not getting the job. The annoying part was that the first guy said I would hear yes or no within 3 days and it took me following up a month later to get an answer. Sysco is unprofessional and I am ultimately happy I was not offered the job. Apparently, they hire multiple sales associates but make it seem they are only looking for one. One person who they hired has been with them a whole year who still has yet to be given a territory to start making commission.

    Interview

Phone interview from a woman at their recruiting headquarters in Texas. General sales related questions. Very impersonal. A lot of back and forth and phone tag before I was asked to come in for an interview. Met with the District Manager and Sales Manager separately. One meeting was enjoyable and a lot of back and forth, while the other was very scripted and awkward. Very impersonal and irrelevant. If you ask me, they need to redo their interview questions. They will never get genuine answers to the questions they ask.

    Interview Questions

    • They said that previous sales experience wasn't completely necessary, but EVERY SINGLE question was "when selling in your current position, how do you handle A, B, C...?" Seemed a bit contradictory.   Answer Question
