Technology Leadership Development Program (TLDP) Interview

Technology Leadership Development Program (TLDP)
Scarborough, ON (Canada)

I applied online and the process took 3 months - interviewed at TELUS in November 2013.

Interview Details – The interview process consists of a phone interview followed by a panel interview. Both the interviews were conducted by current or past graduates of the TLDP program. Below are the details of the process:

1) Applied at Telus' career website with a resume and cover letter in October
2) Received a phone call from one of the developers in November to schedule a phone interview
3) The phone interview consisted of some behavioral questions followed by technical questions (e.g: What is MVC? Why do you need MVC? Why do you need software testing? What are the different types of tests?). Finally, was asked to write a short program in Java. The interviewers used collabedit to look at the code. Interviewers were friendly and helpful during the interview.
4) The second interview was a panel interview where a presentation one one of the past projects was required to be given. The interview started with some basic questions like Why Telus? and why TLDP? After the presentation, there were several questions on the project. Particularly, why a specific technology was used for implementing a component. After the technical round, there were several behavioral questions that ask you to demonstrate leaderships skills, conflict resolution, innovation, etc.
5) After the interview, I was asked to submit two photo IDs and sign a consent form for background check. I was told that HR will contact me within 5-10 business days if they decide to proceed with my application. However, I received a form reject letter on following Monday.

Interview Question – Justifying the technologies used for the project that was presented.   Answer Question

TLDP Interview

TLDP

Interviewed at TELUS

Interview Details – Standard IT interview, coding, Q&A and so on. There are 2 rounds of interviews.

The TELUS TLDP interviewees were very inexperienced, all of them were only about 1.5 ~ 2 years old in TLDP program. I had never have experienced such a unseasoned interviewees because typically you would expect a director or a senior manager involved during new graduate hire process so I found this to be very awkward.

Interview Question – Not technically difficult but I think all you need is good luck.   Answer Question

TLDP for New Grad Interview

TLDP for New Grad

I applied online and the process took 3 months - interviewed at TELUS in November 2013.

Interview Details – Applied online with resume, cover letter, and transcripts. Received a call to schedule a conferencing interview. It was by phone and an online chat to write code. There were 2 interviewer. First part was behavioural and second was technical. The chat editor was a crap. They didn't have enough experience for interviewing.

Interview Question – They asked a math question and asked me to write it in Java in 10 minutes. They insisted on writing code so they can see how I can code. I said it needs analysing before I start. After I started they said how do you solve this particular part of the question. I explained and after listening to their comments I realized that they didn't know about correct vocabularies to use for that math question!   Answer Question
