I applied through college or university. The process took a dayinterviewed at TJX Companies in January 2010.

    Interview Details

Initially I submitted a cover letter and resume, and received a first interview. That consisted of a 1:1 interview with someone in their HR Department (it went extremely well). I was invited for a second interview, which consisted of a short aptitude test to see if we had a knack for planning. Then we went on a guided tour with an employee, followed by a group discussion about the test we took. This was followed by three 1:1 interviews back to back, and finally a luncheon with about 10 HR reps and the 15 or so interviewees.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at TJX Companies in July 2009.

    Interview Details

Both the phone interview and in person interview consisted of mainly behavioral questions. Both interviews lasted between 20 and 30 minutes. Culture seemed laid back with casual dress. The interview took place at the company's second office building which has a different atmosphere from their main building.

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at TJX Companies in April 2011.

There was a full day interview at TJX company which was long but informative. It consisted of 2 1 on 1 interviews and then 2 group exercises where I had to allocate merchandise to specific stores that was dependent on previous years sales trends. There was an analysis on how your interactions were as a group which is important. Then the lunch time is a time to mingle with the interviewees and sell yourself. Lastly you job shadowed someone to learn about their job and you are then analyzed on wether you seemed fit for the job and your personality.

The phone interview went very well, the HR rep was very nice and I was able to set up a date for the interview on the same call.

For the interview process, there was a group of about 20 of us interviewing. At first, we had to take an allocating test which consisted of us planning on where we would hypothetically allocate types of merchandise (in my case light coats) to stores across the country. Next, we were broken up into groups and then were went through different phases of the interview process. We were given a tour of the building, next we were placed with someone who had the position we were applying for to get a feel for what they do. Then, we went through the individual interviews. I met with three people who each asked various questions regarding job experience and different case scenarios. Finally, we were brought back to a room with our group had to discuss the allocating test.

Asked to be very thorough about past experiences and leadership skills. Also placed a lot of emphasis on your ability to demonstrate initiative and thoughtfulness. They wan to know your capabilities not your accomplishments. Be very specific and clear, do not hesitate of think things through while speaking to the recruiter. Prepare for a 45 min phone interview. After the this interview they tell you it takes about two to three weeks for them to get in touch with you.

The company forgot the scheduled initial phone interview and so they have rescheduled a week later. The recruiter apologized but told me this reason : " this somehow slipped off the radar".

The interviewer called 15 minutes later on the rescheduled interview. Asked the basic typical questions. They are pretty concerned of being analytical-oriented type of person as most interviewees mentioned here. So you have to cite an example of a scenario when you utilized your analytical skills at work.

The interview just took half an hour. They asked why I left my job I had 10 years ago ( which I wasn't sure that would still be relevant). I would assume they were checking on the gaps of employment.

I applied through my school's career center but had to apply through their corporate website too. I met the recruiters at a career fair and after submitting my materials online and passing the retail/personality test, I got an email for an online interview. They use this system where you record yourself saying the interview answers, and it's timed. It's a little stressful since it's timed but not that bad at all. After that I got an email invitation to the on-campus interview. It was a group of about 8 students, and the whole recruiting team came. They were all really nice and seemed like a fun group that I would have loved working with. They gave a short presentation about TJX and the program then gave us the famous allocation exercise to do. We did it by ourselves when they left, then they came back after 20 minutes and we had to discuss how we would allocate the merchandise with them in the room. I unfortunately read the sales data a bit backwards, getting my gains and losses confused, though I did understand the concept, especially as someone who had never had retail experience or merchandising experience. They said that we would hear back by the end of the week but I never did, though I contacted them twice a week later then 2 weeks later to inquire about my status. A little sad that I didn't get it, especially since they were making us do stuff that most of us had never done and that we would have been trained on in the program anyway--seems kind of backwards. Also the team is great and I would've loved working with them. Kind of rude that they couldn't email candidates even if they weren't chosen, though.

I applied through college or university. The process took 4 daysinterviewed at TJX Companies in March 2012.

    Interview Details

The interview involved a personality questionnaire a data exercise with a case study and a full day of interviews with 8-10 TJX employers.

Overall the interview was pretty intense. Mostly behavioral type of questions were asked and questions relating to the TJX Companies.

The offices are huge and beautiful but a little overwhelming.
