Internship Interview

Internship

I applied through college or university and interviewed at Target.

Interview Details – This interview was for a summer internship with the HR department. This was a panel interview with 3 interviewers, and all three interviewers were pretty nice. The interview was pretty informal and could tell they were genuinely trying to get to know my personality, which is nice coming from a large corporation like Target. The questions they asked were nothing out of ordinary, like greatest challenge you have overcome, your greatest strength and greatest weakness, and tell about a time you dealt with adversity.

Interview Question – Give us an example of a time you faced a challenging situation and what you did overcome the challenge.   View Answer

Reason for Declining – I took an internship with another company that seemed a better bit.

Distribution Operations Internship Interview

Distribution Operations Internship

I applied through college or university and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Target.

Interview Details – Contacted Target at a University Career fair in February 2014. I was then contacted by a recruiter a few days later to set up an initial phone interview. The phone interview was with a Human Resource Director and took about 30-45 minutes. All the questions were behavioral questions looking for STAR answers (Situation or Task, Action that you took, and Results). I was required to take an online critical thinking and reasoning test, this took about 1 1/2 hours to complete. I was then offered an on-site interview at their distribution center, where I interviewed with various Managers and the General Manager. Same behavioral type questions were asked. I was offered an internship position 2 days later. The entire process took about 1 month.

Interview Question – Describe a time when you made a mistake, and the actions you took to fix it.   Answer Question

Inbetween the two there was an hour of online testing. During the in person interviews there where multiple questions, as stated by others lots of "discuss a time when...".

I then proceeded to get another phone interview a few days with behavioral questions.

Store Executive Internship Interview

Store Executive Internship

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Target.

Interview Details – I started with recruitment through my university's career fair. The recruiters were very friendly and after talking with me about which area of Target I wanted to work, distribution centers or store executive leadership, directed me to apply on Target's website and through my university's career center website. A week later I was offered an on-campus interview. The questions were all behavioral based, and the interviewers honestly wanted to know how I could contribute to the company and what my long term plans were. I interviewed this morning and am waiting to hear back.

Interview Question – Describe a situation where you leveraged someone else to get something done.   Answer Question

Buyer Internship Interview

Buyer Internship

I applied through college or university - interviewed at Target in November 2013.

Interview Details – Two phone interviews with HR that were quite conversational. Mostly behavioral and walk through your resume type questions. They were very personable and also very willing to answer my questions. Final round was all fit interview questions on site with 3 people in the buyer organization (2 VPs and 1 Senior Buyer).

Interview Question – Be very prepared with succinct answers to fit questions in final round. Nothing particularly surprising but they had a worksheet they needed to fill out for each answer which they filled out during the interview.   Answer Question

Executive Internship

I applied through college or university and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Target in October 2013.

Interview Details – Consisted of five behavioral questions starting with, "tell me about a time..." and wanted your answer to consist of the situation, how you handled it, and the end result (what you learned). If you make it past the first interview, you will have a second with the District manager

Interview Question – Most difficult question for me was, "Tell me about a time you had a difficult decision to make at work and how you handled it."   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – It was just for an internship so there wasn't too much negotiating. Did have a say in what district I wanted to be placed in though.
