Assistant Systems Engineer Trainee at Tata Consultancy Services

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Hyderābād (India) Sep 2010 – Reviewed Apr 20, 2013

Interview Details – Hiring and Interview process spanned over almost 2 weeks. First, there was an aptitude test, people who cleared the written test were sent emails to attend the technical and managerial interviews. After that the final round of interview was with the HR. There was heavy competition right from the written test - you could expect that if you are an Indian. The interviews later on were a mixture of skill testers and how long and loyally one can work for the company. The HR interview was an attitude tester. It was cool and nerve-wrecking at the same time.

Interview Question – Every question that I faced was expected or at least none of the questions took me by surprise, but, the most difficult question to answer was "You did your under graduation (graduation in India) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and now you have applied for a software job, how do you justify this?? Don't you think all that you learnt in the 4 years of engineering will have gone waste if you take up this job?? Don't you also think that it's injustice to your mother department? Lol, it's 3 questions rolled into one. The interviewer was apparently from core Electrical and Electronics Engineering (by his own admission at a later point in the interview.)   View Answer

Negotiation Details – I was a fresher when I was interviewed,so, there not much negotiation involved. Had to accept/take what they offered

Trainee Systems Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Mumbai (India) Sep 2012 – Reviewed Mar 17, 2013

Interview Details – I got hired through campus placement. It was 3 step process. First we have given aptitude test. It was bit tougher than previous years. Then after clearing there was an interview. Actually there was 3 interview, technical, management, HR. But mine was combined. They started with basic questions such your favorite subject. I told them i like game development, but it is not in our syllabus. Then the started asking me about DBMS. Questions like what is cross product. Where it is useful. Then they asked me about algorithms and time complexity of quick sort. Then they told me solve one quick sort example. After that they asked me about system security. They asked about cryptography. Then they asked about RSA algorithm. I wrote algorithmic for RSA. After that they told me one golden rule for testing. After that they asked me if you are project manager then what is important to you requirements or bug. I told them requirement is more important. Because based on requirements all development starts. You need clear understanding of requirement to develop a quality product. If we don't focus on requirement phase then there is more likelihood of bug occurring. Then they asked which life cycle model you are using for project i told them its really difficult to strict to any model when developing for college project. But model which will be closely related to our project will be incremental model. Because we will be providing output to our customer in increments. Then they asked me have you visited our site. Who is CEO. What is our employee strength. Then they asked would you like to ask any question to us. i asked them about does there is any game related to work you perform in TCS. They told me no but we have been in multimedia field like films and ads. I also asked them what role i will be playing in TCS. They explained me about my role in organization. After this interview our results were announced and i got selected. :)

Interview Question – No unexpected questions or difficult one. All were average questions.   Answer Question

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Feb 2010 – Reviewed Jan 11, 2013

Interview Details – First there was an aptitude test, mainly maths and some puzzles (very standard), next I was called for a 1:1 interview, the guy was really nice. I was nervous, he understood that and asked me to relax. First question he asked me whether I had lunch and offered me a five star as I hadn't :). He started with simple data structure and algorithm questions, then we discussed my final year project for a long time and lastly he asked some standard HR questions. It was a nice experience.

Interview Question – I was lucky to not face any difficult or unexpected question   View Answer
