User Experience Designer Interview (Negative Experience; Very Easy Interview)
I applied through a recruiter and the process took 1 week - interviewed at TechSmith in July 2013.
Interview Details – A third-party recruiter called me about this position and set up an interview for me with one of their development managers. After the interview, I was informed that Techsmith would not be proceeding with me because I didn't know Photoshop, which I think is rather baloney because I know how to actually develop websites, and so I don't need to know how to make pretend websites in Photoshop.
Interview Question – Nothing difficult, just standard HR behavioral questions such as "describe your least favorite project" which are designed to get you to rant about stuff. Development manager also asked me what my salary range was, which was surprising given that the recruiter had already asked about this. View Answer

Interactive Designer Interview (Positive Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied online and the process took 2 months - interviewed at TechSmith in January 2010.
Interview Details – First, I had a phone interview of approximately 30 minutes. General questions, including salary expectations. Then I was invited for a 1.5 hour interview. Before the interview I had to complete a 6 hour design test. In the interview, I met with approximately 6 people including HR and management. I had to present and respond to a design critique of my work and then answer typical interview questions. Then, they were to get back with me in two weeks. I followed up in two weeks to find out that they would like another interview. This last interview consisted on 6 hours, a new person or group of people every half an hour including the President. This was intense however gave me a clear idea of how the company worked and their values. Overall, everyone was friendly, inviting, and polite.
Interview Question – Where is design going in the next 5 years? Answer Question
Web Development Engineer Interview (Neutral Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at TechSmith in October 2010.
Interview Details – The interview for web development consisted of two portions: a one hour panel interview, largely consisting of standard questions, and a one hour whiteboarding sessions. The whiteboard questions were about web page layout, form posts, and database design. If you make it through the first day, there is a second day of interviews with various personnel within the company, but I didn't make the cut so I can't provide any specifics.
Interview Question – If offered the position, what will you present at our annual development conference? View Answer
Developer Interview (Positive Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied through an employee referral and the process took 5 weeks - interviewed at TechSmith in October 2009.
Interview Details – Interviewed with 4 people, 1 developer, 1 HR, 1 team leader and 1 management. After an hour or so of discussion about past projects and behavior questions moved onto an hour of technical whiteboard questions with 2 developers. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately they took much, much longer than promised to get back with me. I was told I would hear back within 2 weeks for a 2nd interview and the whole process would be done in a month for sure. Instead it took me emailing and calling multiple times (after 4 weeks had gone by) to get answer. Overall it was a positive experience despite the lack of information at the end.
