Sales Associate/Cashier Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in New York, NY

Application Details

I applied online. The process took 3 daysinterviewed at The Gap in October 2014.

Interview Details

I applied on Tuesday late evening and by Wednesday I was called for a brief phone interview. After I passed I was given a face to face interview for the next day. First off the interviewer started very unprofessional by being late then it continued with her having a nasty attitude. I wouldn't want to work for this location if that's the type of people who will be managing me.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at The Gap.

    Interview Details

I applied online and was contacted about a week later to schedule an interview. I went there for the interview and we interviewed in the back break room. The questions were questions that I have not been previously asked ever before, so I was thrown off and even more nervous than before. The employer did not seem happy to be in the interview, and seemed like she had someplace else to be, but still asked a ton of questions due to policy, I'm guessing.

I applied in-person. The process took 6 daysinterviewed at The Gap.

    Interview Details

Very easy, went into the store, asked for an application, filled one out and brought back. They called the next day (summer overload) and I was hired. The whole process took a few days, managers were very friendly.

    Interview Questions
    • You need to appear to an interview in Gap or Gap-like attire. I did not and they asked me if I was planning "to wear that to work?" which I thought was a bit rude.   View Answer

Another store wanted to have me work for them as well so I basically just had them bidding against each other and ended up with a nice pay for a college kid. Definitely negotiate at least a dollar up from what is being offered because you will not likely to get a raise in this position any time soon.

    Interview Details

I applied online, then called, and eventually went into the store to confirm that they had received my application. A couple days later they called me for an interview. It was held in their back room and there was one other former Gap employee there from another store also applying for the position. We were asked really straight forward questions about customer service, how you handle stressful situations at work, etc. We then watched a handful of videos on the company and its product. It was pretty obvious that we both got the job before the interview was even half over.

They simply told me my starting pay, $.25 above minimum which was kind of frustrating. After three months you start being eligible for raises though so it could've been worse.

They ask a bunch of simple questions, and do not care about your answer. It is just a part of the hiring process. They're very desperate and ALWAYS hiring, no matter what. It's an easy job to get.
