Application Details

I applied online. The process took a dayinterviewed at The Gap in April 2011.

Interview Details

I first got a call from the manager about 3 days after I applied online. When I was at the interview, we started off with a set of very basic questions. Nothing out of the ordinary. After the questions, the manager asked me to go inside of the store and pick a couple of outfits that reflected my personality. I then explained the outfits to him and related them to myself. Afterwards, we had a sort of role playing activity in which the manager was a customer and I was a sales associate. When these two activities were done, he very politely explained my flaws and gave me wonderful suggestions on how to improve my approach to customers. Since this was my very first time applying for a job in the retail environment, I learned a lot about this field. The manager was very polite and professional.

    Interview Details

Job postings were located on the Gap website under employment. You would search for the area and/or store number of the Gap you wish to apply to, compete the online survey and personal questionnaire, and finally attaching and submitting your application. Pretty straight forward group interview, the assistant manager brought up a scenario and listened to each individual answer on how we would handle said scenario.

    Interview Questions
    • A co-worker walks into the store and greets you and continues to walk to the stock room. Moments later, he leaves the stock room and you notice he is wearing a different shirt he was initially wearing going into the room. How would you handle this situation?   Answer Question

    Interview Details

I applied online in June 2012 and I got a call back about a week later asking me to come in for a group interview. The interview group was pretty big, about 10 people, but we were all asked the basic questions about why we want to work at Gap, previous experience (which I didn't have at the time but the hiring manager let me substitute with school experience). I heard back about 3 days later offering me a position.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 daysinterviewed at The Gap in August 2012.

    Interview Details

I filled out an application online and after a few months a friend of mine who was working there referred me to the hiring manager and I finally got a call for an interview. I showed up a few minutes late and was afraid they'd tell me to go home (the building was impossible to find!). But they didn't and the woman who interviewed me was so nice and professional. Professional, professional, professional. Those were the only words I could think of during and after the process. She asked me basic questions about my goals, why I liked Gap and how i would describe my dressing style. The interview lasted 15 minutes and the next day I got a call back asking when I could start.

Got called a few days after I submitted my application for an interview. I got there a little early and walked around the store until they were ready to interview me. They went through some scenario questions and then asked me about myself. They also asked about previous jobs and what my availability would be. Then they told me about the job in more detail and told me what I'd be doing if I were hired. A few days later they called and offered me the job. I had to fill out some paperwork and was working in a few weeks.

    Interview Questions
    • The questions weren't really all that difficult. Some required some thought like "what is an example of bad customer service?" It was surprising that they'd ask that since obviously they want good customer service. Also they asked questions about what to do if someone is shoplifting and warning signs of it.   View Answer
