Sales Associate Interview

Sales Associate
Hayden, ID

I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at The Home Depot in January 2014.

Interview Details – Interview was straight up. I spoke to two different managers. The questions were all sales related and asked for weaknesses and strengths. I had two separate interviews and was asked similar questions. The store manager asked if I would stay after the economy got better. He was impressed with my skills and resume however he felt I was way over qualified. I stated I would stay a minimum of 6 months to see if I could get a 40 hour a week position. In the end, they hired an 18 year old hoping he would stay for a number of years. I can't blame them. But, it would have been more appropriate had they made a decision after my first interview.

Interview Question – What would you do if you caught a fellow employee stealing? What would you do if you were helping a customer and you saw another customer waiting for help?   View Answer

Hourly Sales Associate Interview

Hourly Sales Associate
Tacoma, WA

I applied online - interviewed at The Home Depot in July 2013.

Interview Details – Bait and Switch interview process. 20 years of residential remodeling and maintenance easily qualifies for the position of Pro Sales. Called and offered an interview for a full time Pro Sales position. Forty minutes into the interview, the SM informs me that the Pro Sales position had been filled. Bit irritated with this and left the interview. Called two hours later with a offer for a position in flooring. Returned a couple of days later
for a second interview with the SM. This interview also included the DS for D27. The offer was not full time, but for part time only. SM informed me that full time could happen in six months. Winter was approaching, so six months was nothing, and health insurance in ninety days as informed by the SM. Silly me. Two months after the medical insurance was activated, The Home Depot informed all of its part time employees, through a 2014 Home Depot Benefits booklet offering new benefits for the year 2014, no longer offering medical benefits to part time employees. The very first paragraph of this 2014 booklet, tells all the part time employees that The Home Depot would no longer be offering this benefit. Bait and Switch on several levels.

Note: Six months is the period of time my interview process takes place for me considering The Home Depot as my employer. Gave THD seven months. When a cashier was hired for Pro Sales, say no more.

Hourly Associate truly need to Unionize.

Interview Question – Nothing difficult.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – Filled with lies and half truths.
