I applied online – interviewed at TransCanada.

    Interview Details

Applied online through a job board. Two rounds of phone interviews, each one an hour with two different project managers. The interviews took place in the late spring for a summer internship and apparently I was one of 6 or 8 chosen to conduct phone interviews out of 40 online applicants.

    Interview Questions
    • Mostly classic interview questions...Hardest question: What was a situation in which you faced a problem and you had to choose from a number of different solutions? how did you choose this option?

Also: Make sure you convince them that you are interested in a career in this industry post-internship. That will go a long way.

Situation-based questions like tell me a time when you did this or did that. I think it was averagely simplistic and one just needs to throw in some relevant details in your choice of answer. Recommend the STAR approach to answering those questions.

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at TransCanada.

    Interview Details

Interviewed for 1 of 30 EIT positions. 2 rounds of interview. First round was with HR rep and 2 managers from the 15 or so projects. Everything was super casual. Standard behavioural questions. Looking to make sure you have time management and communication skills especially. Any work with contractors or managing concurrent priorities/needs of stakeholders is an asset. Make sure to ask for specifics about the day to day responsibilities before starting so that you can target your answers to the specific job. Some positions are more technical, some are more management style.

2nd round interview was 1 on 1 with a manager from the potential group you will be working with. I met with 2 different managers. 30 minutes each.

    Interview Questions
    • How will working at TC provide you with value. (ie how does this type of work align with your goals).   Answer Question

TC has standardized their starting salary for EIT positions. Tried to negotiate, but was unable to move at all.

The interview was very well set up, with defined questions of the behavioral type. I was greeted at the door; they were on time and made me feel at ease. This was one of the better interviews I’ve had. You could tell that they were an organized company who had been doing this a long time.
