Application Details

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Union Pacific in January 2013.

Interview Details

I was taken aback by UPac's interview process; my first interview with them was extremely informal. I spoke with the interviewer at length about the company and Omaha, where it's located. We spent very little time actually discussing qualifications, experience, and skills. This may or may not be typical of the company; I was recruited through the career office at a professional school at a well regarded university. However, I have a hard time believing that a school's reputation alone would satisfy an employer.
Following my first interview, I was invited to lunch with an executive, with a few other candidates. This was also a bit informal, but the competitive presence of applicants (~6) drove the conversation towards more "typical" interview material.
