Met at a school career fair. Very nice people. They however were looking for a person to do grunt work as an intern. Interns should have some design experience. Overall turned out to just not be a position I was interested in. Very laid back interview.

I applied online. The process took 6+ monthsinterviewed at United States Steel in April 2014.

    Interview Details

Applied online, 5/6 month's later got called in for assessment test (easy). Few weeks later I got a phone interview then an in person interview. The interviewer was nothing but a robot and could care less how you answered. don't think she even made eye contact with me. She just simply ready the questions that were on the paper in front of her. Next was the full physical. I got fitted for a respirator and subscription for eye protection was sent you into the system. Blood, urine and hair test for drugs. They even sent me home with a temporary fitted respirator to use when I got my start date. About a week later, I got a letter from Sterling (their hiring company). I was excited to see my start date only to be floored with a letter informing me of their job off resignation!!! They took back their offer because of my background check that had charges on it from more than 10 yrs ago!!. Things I did from when I was a teenager!! WOW!! after all the hoops they made me go through and the time I had to take off my current job. You would think that if they didn't like what they seen they would have me toned at the beginning of the whole hiring process.

Met USS at a on-campus career fair. Received a phone interview and then an on-site interview. The HR person setting stuff didn't seem to know what she is doing.

The on-site interview was at a steel mill. Included a HR presentation, steel mill tour, lunch, and three 1 on 1 interviews with various management from the different departments at the mill. You will be there with 5 or 6 other candidates.

The steel mill itself was very cool, which is why I was interested. The vibe I got from the interviewers was not good though. It would definitely be a tough place to work, long hours, and rough management. The unions at steel mills are bad. They were "locking" someone up when I was going through security.

Got a call from a recruiter to set up a phone interview. Performed my phone interview with very basic questions. Was told that I would get a reply for the position the following two weeks. Instead, I get no response from the company at all.

I applied through college or university. The process took a dayinterviewed at United States Steel in October 2012.

    Interview Details

The interview began around seven in the morning with them giving you a basic run down of events that will occur throughout the interview. The mill I interviewed at was hiring for the pipe mill and the flat roll mill, so you interviewed with management from both plants. Expect to be interviewed by four or five different people at each plant. The whole interview process felt like a check the box process for every person that interviewed you and then it was pass them off to the next person.
