I was emailed by HR and then I set up a meeting with the supervisor. It was a short, 20 minute interview, where the questions were not quite hard. Told me I didn't have an office, but that it would be a flexible job. Asked questions regarding who I was, where I was from, and some more basic questions. Supervisor seemed really interested in my previous experience and towards the end, told me I was perfect for the job and asked what my availability would be like in the future. They hired me immediately after the interview.

Kind of a long process, as my home department and the department where I teach are different. The interview with the professor took about 30-45 minutes. It mostly consisted of her telling me about the course and then she asked a few questions about me and my experiencing with the subject and with teaching.

Very straight forward interview. I sent an email to the lab PI after seeing a posting on an internet listserv. They interviewed me via skype a week later and asked me about my goals and prior experience.

College Application and wrote an essay. I applied to the business school as well as the engineering school. The process took about 2 months as I applied for early admission. It is based on a rolling basis so they get back to you as soon as possible.

You apply for entry into a year-long training program. If accepted, you spend one semester in the Writing 300 course (about 20 people in my section). Based on your performance there, you may be invited into Writing 301, where the classes consist of mandatory staff meetings (one hour each). The cuts mainly happen at Writing 300.

    Interview Questions
    • Not a question per se, but I got the sense that applicants' thoughtfulness on Writing 300 essays was the main criterion. Most prompts asked us to reflect on the writing process, power dynamics in the university, and things of that nature.   Answer Question

Laid back. I was offered the job the same day. They just wanted to make sure they weren't hiring some bum, I suppose. I was interviewed by a team of research staff. The principal investigator was late but was still very impressed with the overall interview and my performance. Although she thought that I lacked experience, she offered me another position in her department. Many former students work for the university as well as individuals in transition. You get a lot of experience that can take you places.

After submitting my application, I heard back within a few days. There was just a quick behavioral interview. The position was more about fit than anything. They did ask some technical questions about my experience, but nothing unexpected or difficult given the nature of the position. The whole thing lasted less than 45 minutes.

Very behavioral-based. The interviewer takes you to a secluded office and asks you a few basic questions: Why do you want the job? How many hours can you work per week? What are your strengths? What are some of your weaknesses?
