Assistant Manager (MGT) Interview

Assistant Manager (MGT)
Tucson, AZ

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Walgreens in February 2010.

Interview Details – I applied online and was invited to an interview with the District Manager within 2 weeks. The process was standard behavioral questions based on past experiences, followed by a series of "what if's" ("what if this were to happen"). The DM was unenthusiastic and a tad aggressive with her perfume. The whole thing took about an hour.

Interview Question – I was asked a question which the DM then answered herself, which was unexpected: "You don't think a 40-60 minute commute is unreasonable, do you? No, of course you don't."   View Answer

Negotiation Details – There was no salary negotiation. I was given an offer that I required a 4 week delay on and they agreed with the stipulation that that was all I would ask for.

I applied through college or university and the process took 4 days - interviewed at Walgreens.

Interview Details – Had a job fair at my university. Three of the top store managers in the my district came to talk to people about opportunities. I left them my name and two days later got a call asking if I wanted a job. I went into the store that needed a position filled. Talked to the store manager for 5 minutes and then handed me my drug test form.

I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Walgreens in April 2009.

Interview Details – This was a one time interview in the District Office, which happened to be a 3 hour drive in this case. The interview was not difficult. After a brief thirty minute interview I was sent home. In about a week I received an e-mail that I was being offered a position at a salary of 15.82. This was with never even visiting the store that I would work at, or talking to the manager that I would work for. Unfortunately, this led to a huge personality conflict that made it almost impossible to work, and left a bad taste in my mouth regarding this company.

Interview Question – The most difficult question for me is always the "tell me where you see yourself in 5 years" question.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation. The offer was the offer and there was no changing it.

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Walgreens in September 2011.

Interview Details – First round interview on site with the store manager - relatively informal with the majority of the questions surrounding past experiences and reasons why I'm applying for the job. The second round interview was with the regional director who asked similar questions initially and then began to focus on situational questions and customer-oriented interaction experience.

Interview Question – Talk about a situation that you played a major role in the solution but did not benefit from recognition.   Answer Question

I applied in-person and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Walgreens in April 2011.

Interview Details – Hiring process was very simple. However, I did have to make a useless 2 hour drive for a meeting with a store manager that lasted all of 6 minutes. All in all, seamless and simple process to complete.

Negotiation Details – There was none

I applied online and the process took 6+ weeks - interviewed at Walgreens in October 2009.

Interview Details – Very basic questions. What do you think your job would be like in this position. How would you handle an irate customers? Tell me about a time you had a conflict with a co-worker, how was it resolved.

Generally a STAR format, or S.B.O

Framed questions, and expected framed answers. Takes practice to organize your thoughts, into words, in that very specific framwork without practicing. You think the questions are easy, and they are, but do a few 'dry-runs' on answering questions in this format without rambling, while someone is staring at you.

Interview Question – Tell me about yourself (HATE this question).
Tell me what hobbies you have (HATE this question).

I applied in-person and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Walgreens in June 2009.

Interview Details – The interview process for this position was fairly simple and straight forward. I applied online and was contacted the next day by the store manager in charge of hiring for the new store. When I was done with that interview I was called shortly afterward and asked if I would drive to a different store (an hour away) for the second and final interview. The next day I was offered the job and accepted.

Interview Question – I believe all the questions were standard without any surprises.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was not a negotiation phase.
