I applied in-person. The process took a dayinterviewed at Walmart in October 2013.

    Interview Details

You will be contacted by phone for initial interview. There will be 3 interviews, or should be. Depending on how many applicants, you might have to have to come back later for the rest. The first interview is conducted by an hourly supervisor, the second by a salaried member of management. The third interview is supposed to be my the store manager.

Please make sure that there are 2 current and valid phone numbers of people you actually know as references, (Not actually "Professional Contacts") They have to be able to answer the questions, not refer us to a hotline.

    Interview Questions
    • The questions are long winded and repetitive. Listen for the core of what it is asking. Give an real life example, whether work, school, or home related and how YOU actually came to solve the situation. The company wants to see how you think, how you solve problems. So show them that you can.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
There is no negotiation. The job offer is set. Each job has a level, a code. So whatever you are interviewing for and eventually might be getting, has a set value. The only difference might be if you job credits that the system can take into consideration. No one will know that, until the actual job offer is presented by the computer.

Managers look through applicants that are both internal and external as well as transfer associates. Through these they look at experience as well as previous jobs. If you have experience in a specific area put this on your application. If called for an interview you will be interview by the Department Lead first. Answer questions with as much information as possible, to little information you will not pass the first step. If you pass the first step you then go to a 3 panel interview. To save time some stores only use the Assistant Manager for the interview. You will get the same basic set of questions just worded differently. Again use as much information as possible and be detailed.

    Interview Questions
    • Most questions ask about specific situations, like customer complaints, problem with a rule. It can be complicated because the wording that is used, depends on how they read them. The more detailed the better.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
No negotiation, simply a job offer, here is your pay, if you have experience it has to be on your application under jobs. This will help bump your start pay up a little. If not then they can't include a bump in pay.

I applied online. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at Walmart in December 2010.

    Interview Details

I applied online and didn't hear anything, so I called the store and spoke to personnel. They asked me to come in for an interview that day, so I went in and was interviewed by three separate people, and asked to do a cashier test (an evaluation on customer service). I did the test, and was brought back and offered the position, signed the paperwork and was given the drug test info. I went for the drug test and it came back, but they haven't called my references as of yet (it's been a week) so I am still waiting to hear what will happen.

I applied on internet. She called back the same week but i missed her call and she wasn't hiring anymore once i ended up reaching her. So don't miss her call! She called me back the week after for an interview. It was a 2 part interview with the same two people in both. The first part she asked questions on holes in my work history, Tons of questions, examples of when you provided good customer service, you need to have a whole bunch of work related stories in your head ready. The second part, they re ask the questions that you didn't answer in enough detail. They hired me on the spot.

I applied online – interviewed at Walmart in February 2010.

    Interview Details

You have a first initial interview, usually with an assistant manager, they ask questions about former employers and how you performed in certain situations, the interview usually will take about 15 to 30 mins. If they like you they will ask you there for a second interview or call you a few days later to set one up, this few days is usually the time it takes them to get back your background check. Which, if you have any misdemeanors, they will not hire you . The second interview is usually with another manager, probably the manager of the department you will be working in or another assistant manager. They will ask you a few more questions and usually from there have you fill out some paper work. You're almost in the clear. Last is the drug test, from the second interview you will have 24 or 48 hours, I don't remember, to submit a drug test at some clinic near by. Spoiler alert: they won't hire you if you test positive for any recreational drugs, including that sweet Mary jane, even in Colorado.

    Interview Questions
    • They handed out a work sheet with a couple of math problems on it, most were basic math, but I did not plan on having to do math for walmart.   View Answer

I didn't negotiate my pay or anything, they said their price and I accepted. During your interview, usually just the phone call before the first interview they tell you what position you will be interviewing for.

Considering the job that I was applying for the interview was a bit intimidating. The interviewers tried to make it a non-threatening process, but there were three of them asking fairly probing questions. Not the typical questions you'd expect like "how do you feel you could contribute to our company", but more like "Site a time when a someone from a team that you were not on - either at work or outside of work - helped you with a problem and how that influenced you and that other person. What was the outcome and how did the experience influence you future performance?" When I applied for the job initially I was looking for an entry-level job with some security and room for advancement, so I indicated on the application that I was interested in a wide range of positions. The job for which I was interviewing was 'instock' which it turns out is Wal-Mart speak for unloading trucks. That is fine. A foot in the door is a foot in the door. The experience since has been less than rewarding unfortunately.
