I applied through other source. The process took 2 months - interviewed at Walmart in March 2013.

    Interview Details

It was a hiring location off site from a store. We toured the store first then walked over to the location where we interviewed on a panel. Two person panels and two panels later, we all were dismissed for the day and sent home. After about 3 days, they contacted me to make an offer.

I applied online - interviewed at Walmart in March 2013.

    Interview Details

My original application was online, I had to fill out the normal application for work experience and so on. Then to become a hourly manager you had to complete an assessment test to be considered and then another assessment quiz to work as a salary member of management. The test would let the applicant fall into different hiring tiers. Usually only the first tier was ever looked at but when the pool was low Walmart would look into the 2nd tier. I was called into an interview with the store manager and a shift manager. I was then called by HR and or Market manager to offer the position and accept salary pay. I had to have a drug test and back ground test at this time to finalize job offer. I then went to orientation for a full long day of going over Walmart rules and standards. New assistants and external hires as myself would then be sent to 8 weeks of training in another location. The training was more about customer service then Walmart store information ( in which I already had) so still went to job with out completely understanding my job role. At that point a lot of hands on and learning with experience from day to day.

    Interview Questions
    • The questions were pretty standard giving specific answers through experience. ex. ' tell me about a time you planned and coordinated an event, what were your challenges and what was the outcome."   Answer Question

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Walmart.

    Interview Details

Initial interview is with a store manager. Its approximately 10 situational based questions. NOt too difficult. After that you will have an informal interview with the regional human resources manager. This is basically just to get of feel of what kind of person you are. After that, if all goes well they will call you back with a job offer. There is a 8 week mandatory training that needs to be done and it is in a different city, so this can be difficult for people with children.

No negotiation. Computer figures out your salary based upon experience, so make sure your application includes ALL experience.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Walmart in February 2013.

    Interview Details

Contacted by Walmart recruiter who was friendly and after initial phone interview set me up for a panel interview. The panel interview was very disorganized and rushed. There was very little time to expound on your skills and experience as they consistently told you time was short. Only 2 out of the probably 10 interviewers even smiled and you were treated like cattle going into a slaughter as there was alot of other interviewees and groups before and after your group. We were told we were the guinea pigs, I assume this type of interviewing was new?? You only had 3 questions to answer from a list that they had to abide by. I even had the same question asked by the 2nd set of panel interviewers that I had asked by the first. On a positive note there were store managers there that you could interact and ask questions of while waiting for your interviews. The process took 3 1/2hrs. Overall it was a VERY impersonal and cold interviewing set up. I have had alot of interviews in my 30 years of management, this was the worst experience I have had.

    Interview Questions
    • - Describe a time when you had to influence a group on a significant change?
      - How do you plan and what processes do you use to prepare for future staffing needs?
      - Describe a time when you had to remove an obstacle to achieve a goal?
      - Describe a time when you had to make an important business decision?

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Walmart in February 2013.

    Interview Details

My Resume was on Career Builder, I was contacted by phone by a Walmart Recruiter asking me if I was interested in hearing about opportunities available. They told me they had two types of positions open, Assistant Manager and Shift Manager. I was interested in the Shift Manager position because it was a hire position in the store and it paid better overall. Had a phone interview with recruiter, 3 weeks later had a panel interview with two store managers and was offered the position two days after interview. I was really hoping for Shift Manger position, however they offered me Assistant Manager, which I accepted with anticipation to move up within company.
